2006 tranny recall?

My car has had vibration issues at just over 2K rpm, driving in low rpm vibrates my seat and get loud humming from the engine... I sometimes hear the helicopter sound that you are talking about almost as if the engine is knocking maybe... I've been trying to figure out what could have happened all this time to make the car so sluggish...

I heard from other forums that if you have rough idle and rough noises from the engine it could be a vacuum leak form the intake duct at the supercharger... correction was to replace it as the plastic weld was coming apart causing leaks...

I have an automatic and have to drive my car in sport mode to keep the RPM's up so I don't get the nasty humming/vibrations from normal low rpm driving.

fly wheel - or torque converter?

I have an automatic and I had the passenger engine mount replaced, my exhaust vibrates so much when I step on the gas usually low RPM's but after 2K it smooths out...

Overall it feels kind of rough, grinding kind of sound when I accellerate... almost as if the engine is out of balance or something... still can't pin point it.

the vibrations are so annoying even after an engine mount replaced, if I got up a ramp slow, slow enough to keep gas on the car and hold it in place I get the vibrating exhaust, soon as I start moving the vibrations smooth out...

similar to being stuck and not being able to move as you rev the engine a bit... exhaust vibrates and transfers vibrations to cabin/seat...

I believe there is a big difference between a recall and a service bulletin. A recall is a mandatory fix-it, where as a service bulletin is on a case by case deal.

Actually as of typing this, my car is getting serviced for the flywheel. Since the first day I've had my car, it's always been loud but I shrugged it off since BMW/MINIs just have the characteristic of making noises. Once I told a SA that my flywheel was chattering at idle and that it was annoying, he said there was a service bulletin about it and booked me an appointment. If you are still under warranty, you should call your SA and complain about a "chattering flywheel" (keywords) and see what happens.

I will ask about he chattering flywheel, I find I get the chatter when I'm in drive more than when in neutral.. when there is load on the engine there is a chatter or rattle coming from the front of the car and can be heard in the cabin. I always thought this was normal, but when I test drove other cooper S automatics, same year etc. was not noisy or chattery...

Cheers

Well the chattering flywheel is for manual transmission cars. I'm not too sure what is going on with your automatic transmission problem though. Have you talked to the dealership about what's going on with your car? Or if you are out of warranty, take it to a mechanic and see if they can diagnose the problem. Sorry I'm not too much of help, I have no experience with automatic Mini's.

Hi,

Thanks for the info, all I know is that my acceleration is rough, and I get the chewbacca sound too, after the car warms up to normal operating temperatures... It is smoother when it is cold, makes no sense, but my main issue is vibrations in the cabin under load or low RPM's.

dealer put a new engine mount, and it helped marginally, so I think it's masking some other problem with drivetrain/engine

Flywheel, clutch, and pins

Hey folks,

Just had Fred (06MCS) in the dealer's a couple of weeks ago for some warranty work. None of which was related to this issue. Just in conversation they mentioned the problem and the recall and wanted to know when I wanted to schedule an appointment. They also told me Icould have this done anytime, there was not a time or mileage limit at this point.

Might lean on your local dealers if anyone is having a problem.
