I live in a little hick town where everyone knows all the cops and they all know you. You basically know where the cops are at any given time. I can do all the speeding I want at different spots at different times of the week. haha Never been pulled over for speeding. Although my usual is 70 in a 50, I should have been pulled over so many times, but....

I got a ticket once passing a rock-hauler too quickly. It happened on a four lane (two lanes, each direction) road. I was behind the truck, and I had to turn right up ahead...there were also cars behind me. The rock hauler was moving really slow, and my right-hand turn was not far ahead. Anyway, I had to get around the rock-hauler and back into the right lane, so I downshifted and put my little Cooper into motion.

An officer driving on the other side of the road thought I was going too fast, but to this day I believe the prevailing traffic conditions warranted everything I did and therefore I am totally unrepentant in the matter. I drive very safely and sanely, but sometimes if you have to move (like passing a truck) it's best not to (or safe to) fanny about.

Two tickets . . . . so far. I am still waiting on my Mini so things could change soon. I got pulled over for rolling through a stop sign instead of coming to a complete stop. The officer saw my brother's badges (sergeant and lieutenant) in my wallet and gave me a summons for no proof of insurance. The card was at home.

The second was in Memphis, TN. I'm driving down a two lane road and my headlight burns out. I lilterally went over a hill and there was an officer waving me over. Yup, ticket for no headlight. All I had to do was replace the light and show proof of purchase.
That is not to say that I was not pulled over numerous times in TN. For some strange reason, my NY plates seemed to attract cops like a donut shop. They wanted to know why I was in TN with NY plates. I explained that I was going to graduate school but would be returning home when school was over. They seemed to be as happy at the prospect of my leaving as I was.
So, here's the next question. Anyone noticed a bias against out of state drivers/plates? (It could be that we New Yorkers just have a reputation for being . . . . what's the right word . . . "disputatious." NAM sensor will not let me put the real word here.)

1971 Datsun 240Z, black, lowered, loud exhaust, car numbers for autoX, etc. Always driven very quickly when the road is less than straight... No tickets.

1985 Porsche 944, bright red, illegal tints. Never sees less than 75 on the highway... No tickets.

1998 Doge Caravan SE, purple, physically incapable of exceeding most speed limits... Written warning for 56 in a 45.

Still scratching my head as to how that's the only car I've yet managed to be pulled-over in.

It is common knowledge that in the southeastern states like Georgia and South Carolina that any
vehicle on I-95 with NY, NJ, CT, PA tags is more than likely running drugs from Florida.
More so if it is not during Spring Break or if you fit the profile of a drug runner.

If you ask me I'll tell you that if you're going to run drugs then use an old couple from NY to bring the money down during the winter in their Cadilac.
And another elderly couple to bring the stuff back in a Lincoln or other large Merican car like a Ford or Chevorlet (no spinners, no gold paint, no tint, no one under the age of 70).

I'd say depends where you are, and who you get and just how bad what you do is. may end up with more understanding of you not being familiar with local laws, may end up with a more likely to pay the fine and be done with it,may be like a kid I knew that had to negotiate a test date with a professor because on his trip to the school he got pulled and got a must appear summons for reckless driving 500miles from school.

On another note, I've spent many many hours drivnig around Memphis never saw a single officer beyond the station, or dricecting traffic when the highway was closed.

Till 2006 - no tickets ever (Thank God for the good ole Mitsubishi Mirage, which took forever to reach 65)!

Mini purchased Sep 2006.

Break-in completed Nov 2006

First ticket : 23 over speed limit, Bear Mountain State Park, 2:00 AM (Dec 2006)

Second ticket : Passing on the right, Tarrytown. 4 lane highway (2 for each direction). Cop told me I was going too fast for him to catch me on radar, so gives me a ticket for passing on the right. (Mar 2007)

Third ticket : 85 in 65mph zone on NJTP. Had to drop my wife off at school (opening day) - July 2007

Forth ticket : 34 over speed limit Bronx River parkway. State trooper got me for that and he was not happy. Neither am I. (Mar 2008)

Was always polite with the LEOs, but could not get away!!!

Paid all of them. No complaints!!

Most States have a lower speed Limit for vehicles pulling trailers.

California disallows trucks in the fast lane on multi-lane freeways.

These types of laws are for the assummed reduced manuverability or safety associated with these vehicles.

Since MINI are much more manuverable than the average vehicle they should be allowed at least 15 mph over the posted speed.

If I could just be President for a day ...............

So I basically got "lucky." One of the radio stations there used to have a contest called "Cop/No Cop." You would call in and they would identify a specific donut shop and ask if you thought a cop was in there or not. Then they would call the donut shop to see if you were right. Sounds silly but it was pretty funny.

Oh man, where do I start?

1. Blocking the box. This was my first "moving" violation, but I was actually in neutral with my foot on the brakes. $45 and 2pts.

2. 59 in a 40 AND Failure to Signal lane change. Plead not guilty, made up some bs, got the lane change ticket dropped and the speeding ticket reduced. 4pts.

2. 91 in a 60 AND "Mandatory" wreckless driving for 31 over. Luckily it happened in NJ and the points or any record of the violation don't transfer to NY. $270 0pts.

3. 54 in a 40. West side hwy, late for work, you know the drill. Plead not guilty made up some more bs got it reduced. $85 4pts

4. 71 in a 40. Going over the tri-boro at 4am. Still pending w/o a court date yet. potentially 8pts

Six of the points have dropped off of my license already because they're both more than 18months old. This brings my total down to 4. If I can get this last ticket reduced to a 6pt then I get to keep my license .

I feel like a should slow down a bit

Insurance Companies are using various forms of information to classify your personal risk factors when involved in an auto crash.....

Recently Auto Insurance companies have started using some rather resourceful means to defend their not covering motorists involved in auto crashes. Including but not limited to: Any web page data or information you or any other family members may post in MYSPACE.com and similar forums, including this one possibly.....

Additionally, anything you post here, if located, may be used against you in any civil suit relative to your operation of a motor vehicle while involved in an auto crash....

Basically, there is no anonymity when you have an IP address. And these Insurance Companies will stoop to nothing to cover their butts ! And corporate WALLETS.

So a word to my friends here..... Please Do not post anything here or any place else which may place you in a more uncomfortable, or culpable positon in the future......

Motor Safe!
