Water dripping from the mirror area?

It's the second time that it happens to me... ok, I have the car for 3 weeks only.

First time, I take a left turn and some water comes from the black box behind the rear view mirror on the inside of the windshield. The car was cleaned a couple of hours ago so I tough the water was because of the guy cleaning the interior.

Then, yesterday it rained a lot.. I took the occasion to check out my tires because one of them have a slow leak. Went to test the car down the street to feel the car to see if I had an alignment problem because the car was feeling weird the other day because of the low pressure.
I saw water dripping from the rear view mirror.. could not see the source.. it's dripping directly on the round thing showing the temperature on the climate control..

Anyone have experienced that ?

Thanks

Check sunroof gasket surround ?

Just a guess, but it doesnt sound like a windshield issue as much as it sounds like water is getting in through the sunroof. I have an 03 as well, and my sunroof has a rattling / jiggling noise when driving on rough roads, the noise goes away when I partially open the roof 1/8 inch., I beleive my gasket may be getting dry ect. Maybe the sun in your location has dried out the roof gasket surround allowing water to get in ?

Where is the tube located? How can I fix that ? Do I have to remove the headliner ?

could be a mirror sauce leak, or a possible blinker fluid leak

I think it's the hole in the molded rubber you see in the front edge of the sunroof opening on the passenger side, looking down from outside. Blast some compressed air into the hole.

Hi mox - Congrats on your new mini and welcome! The sunroof drain tube runs down behind the A-pillar trim and if it fails it is usually because it disconnects from the drain hole, not because it is blocked. Once disconnected, water coming from the sunroof into the drain hole just finds its own way out, often into the car's interior, since it has no drain tube to use as a conduit.

If this is what has happened to your mini (it is a fairly common failure, to BMW's as well as to MINI's) , the way to check is to remove the A-pillar trim and verify that the tube is connected to the barbed fitting at the drain. If disconnected, slide it over the barbed fitting and secure it with a tie-wrap to keep it from coming loose again.

There are pics of this in another thread... try searching for "sunroof drain tube".

Good luck and let us know what you find!

^^ Thank you

I have seen that many people are reporting water on the floor.. I haven't seen anyone complaining of water getting from the rear view mirror or directly on the windshield from the little black box behind the rear view mirror.

Well, If your explorations don't bring up anything with the drain tubes, it may be your windshield. When I bought my car, the previous owner had the windshield replaced, and they did not to a proper job sealing up the top of the windshield, so when it rained, water came in and pooled in the headliner, when I moved it would drip... no, Pour out of the bottom of the mirror.

I hope for your sake it is just the drain tubing, because you will have to pay at least 300.00 to replace your windshield...

-Chase
