What's this button do?

Hello, new to Minis!! Need some ecucation please. There is a push button on the far left side of dash (between door and steering column) that has what appears to be some sort of a light symbol on it. I cannot see that it does anything and can not find it referenced in the owner's manual. Any ideas? Also, the resume button on the cruise does not resume. If I have a speed set and hit the brake or shut off the cruise, vehicle will not resume speed by pressing resume button, only by using the + button to gain speed. Any help here?
Thanks

I don't know that I've seen any OEM button on the left. Perhaps your mini's pre-owned and the previous owner had a set of aftermarket driving lights or a light bar on the front?

My resume works. Cruise control remains active until pressed twice to turn it off.

What year is your mini?

The button you're referring to is for the optional driving lights. The switch isn't present unless the driving lights are installed, so if you have the switch and no lights, then I'm assuming you bought your MINI used and the previous owner removed the lights.

As for the cruise control, it sounds like yours is behaving like it's supposed to. If you press the "0/1" button or tap the brakes to disengage the cruise control, tapping the "+" button will bring you back to whatever speed you were going before you disengaged the system. (I think you have to be going 35+ MPH before you try to resume, though).

If you actually turn off the cruise control (pressing the button with the picture of the speedometer), then you're right - there's no way to resume from that. The important thing to remember is that if you want to temporarily disengage the cruise control without applying your brakes, use the "0/1" button instead.

Thanks for the replies. I've got to get a book on this thing. By the way, it is an 06 space blue S. Love it, just haven't had the chance to learn much about it yet. It's a week old with me!! Anyway, thanks for the clarification on the cruise. I thought the speedo looking button was resume--DA. And about the lights, it has an Aero front bumper with the two lower lights and two larger ones a little higher in the bumper, and two that are on brackets in front of the upper grille. Any of these be the driving lights you mentioned? Thanks again

Driving lights are the higher ones mounted on the bonnet (upper grill)

When you press the button, the light should light up (green). But the lights will only go on with the high beams.

(welcome to NAM!)

Thanks again. Have not noticed the button lighting up but I will look closer and I certainly have not looked at the lights when on high beam to see if they are on. I'll check that out. Regards all!!

I'm baaaack! Exactly as described earlier. Green light comes on at switch and driving lights come on when high beam headlights are turned on. You guys are a plethora of information. Who needs an owner's manual with this available!!! Many thanks, I mean Mini thanks!!

On mine the I/O button turns on the cruise, the + button sets the speed and increases if necessary. Once engaged the I/O button if hit once will disengage the cruise and the speedo button will resume. If I hi the + button after disengaging it just sets the cruise to whatever speed I happen to be doing at that moment. If I hit the I/O button twice it turns off the cruise. This is with my 3 spoke(upgraded from 2 spoke).

Yes, this is the place to ask questions. Often you can do a search and find a dozen threads already covering the question.

Plethora?

Yours works just like mine, except that I thought I was using the "+" button to resume instead of the "speedo button". The method you described makes more sense, though, so I'll double-check mine.

You don't have an Owner's Manual? Download it here: https://ol.miniusa.com/publications/...=2006_MINI.pdf

Hello out there! The cruise has me somewhat baffled. I would have assumed the speedo looking button was the resume but when I hit it, it kills the system and you have to start over. If you hold it down for a few seconds, it is like it locks out the cruise system and it will not come back on for several minutes. Any ideas on whats going on here?

l/0 button: Cruise control on-off
+ button: Tap twice to set speed. Press down to increase speed.
- button: Press down to decrease speed.
"Speedometer" button: Resume previously set speed (as long as the cruise was never turned off).

If it's not working like this, time for a trip to the dealer.

I think there are a couple of ways to use the cruise control. I only have to hit the "+" button once to set my speed, but I enable the cruise control differently:

1) Hit the "0/1" button (this is the "master arm" button for the CC system).
2) Press the speedometer to turn on the CC in standby (dash indicator comes on)
3) Press "+" to set a speed
4) Press "-" to lower the set speed
5) Press the "speedometer button" to resume (I had this wrong in my earlier post)

Thanks for all the input. Must be time to go to the dealer. When I hit the speedo button, it shuts down the cruise system. And by the way, I have found another item of question. Do all 06 S have the security system? If so where is the blinking indicator light showing that it is activated? Mini thanks

No, the security system is an option. If you had it, the tip of the turn signal stalk would be red, and flash when activated.
