Other than not getting a sun roof I am not sure if I need the Premium package. Is the trip computer worth it? Also would you be upset if you did not have the Sun roof? It sure would be nice but then when I look at a Cooper S for under 20k that sounds nice also.

Lastly what about the Sport package? Can you feel any difference with the 17 inch rims? They look nice but I could always add those with performance tires down the road... They are heavier than the 16inch rims right? Are the Xenon headlights that much better at night? I know when I see a car with them I think they look great at night.

Oh, and will the packages affect the ease of re-sale and value respectively?

Thanks,
Kenny

As far as the Premium pkg, I think you'll really like having the trip computer, and MPG, and all that... It will help re-sale value but don't think your gonna get rich because it has it! Once you've had it on any car it will be a must have from then on...
Depending on the type of driving you do, and what shape your roads are in, I'd say the Sport handling package is for hi-performance driving. It will decrease the smoothness of the ride... that's the trade off, smooth suspension or excellent handleing suspension...
Hope this helps!

Suspension is same on all MCS - sport package or not. Only the size of the tires change.

Hrm... If the suspension is the same then how important is the DSC? Will that help a lot in control around fast corners? Would it make the car safer and would it lower insurance? I am not as concerned about the wheels because I have seen them on Ebay and others sites

I'm sorry I stand corrected... I was thinking "Sport Suspension" not DSC. Mine's a everyday, everyseason driver so I'm keepin' it plain.

Don't know about package 1... As for the trip computer, I've always been in the habit of keeping track of my gas mileage using the trip odometer and don't see any real need for it. Package 2, which I have, does add a few very nice features. I like having the runflat tires along with the spare. The fog lamps are really excellent, and the sport seats are firm, comfortable, and provide great support at the sides.

Oh, and depending on yor tastes beware the leather steering wheel... it just feels very strange to me, though this is a matter of personal preference so just be sure to compare.

OK so I drive the MINI for one day... and here are my thoughts so far .....
The on board trip computer is a cool thing to show people, but is it needed _NO_
I am not one to care what my MPG is/are nor do i care what my average speed is/was and the miles left well, thats what i have a gas gage for .The automatic air conditioning is also a nifty thing to show people is it needed _NO_ It tends to blow to hard so I found I adjust the blower down, so it turns the auto air off . The sunroof and the radio controls in the stearing wheel are by far the coolest options ..The cruise control is great for freeway driving. I agree the package is good for resale and the package is cheaper then each item on its own .. So if you were thinking about the sunroof and cruise just get the Prem. package . Thanks ( my two cents )

Yes the S comes standard with the sport seats.
I have a Cooper and like the sport seats better.....but I did not order the whole Sport package....if you want some stuff from a certain package but not the WHOLE thing....you might want to check to see if you can order it that way. I ordered the whole premium package because I liked the idea of it and I like the trip computer and the multi-function steering wheel alot. I did not order the DSC or the Xenon Headlights....but I did order everything else from the sport package.

Remember, if you are getting an 'S', sport seats, sports suspension and a leather steering wheel/stick are STANDARD. And run-flat tires without a spare is also standard on the 'S'. You were getting some misinformation here. The Sport package on the S has Xenons, 17" wheels, DSC, and foglights.

I'd say if you like ALL of the options in a package and really like at least TWO, get the package. But if there is one option in the package you don't want at all or two that you really couldn't care less about, then don't get it - order individually.

As far as premium, if you like sunroofs at all, get it. It is practically the largest in existence and certainly the largest per size of the car. I've only test driven MINIs twice but I've played with the stereo countless times on the showroom floor. The multifunction steering wheel is fantastic! Esp since the radio controls on the console aren't very big or convenient. So with the sunroof and MFSW, you're already at $1100. That means $150 more for auto air and trip computer. Both are not necessary but sure do make the car look more expensive. Also if you don't get the MFSW, you don't get cruise control. Now I NEVER use cruise as I've driven mostly stick over the past 13 yrs but EVERYONE of my cars - no matter how new, old, expensive or cheap - they ALL had cruise. I don't plan on using it on my MINI but it should be there IMO.

The sport package really depends on the wheel size. I'd probably rather have 16" wheels but they're pretty ugly - at least on the dark silver, IMO. They do look very nice on some of the other colors. DSC is most likely not necessary but probably good to have b/c if you ever really need it, it could be a lifesaver. But you've lived without it fine this long. The Xenons & fogs are cool but of course not necessary. But - if you're happy with the 16" wheels, the decision is made for you - don't get the sports package. But if you had to had the 17" (like me) and the Xenons (like me), that's $1100 of $1250 again (and that's why they price them like they do). Certainly fogs and DSC are worth another $150. Just my $0.02. Hope it helped.

Most importantly, get what you want! NO REGRETS!

On this car, it has to have a sunroof IMO.

Also, I'm pretty sure DSC does NOT lower insurance. It only increases your ensurance!

>>So if you were thinking about the sunroof and cruise just get the Prem. package.

I'm definitely getting the sunroof and cruise/multifunction steering wheel, and even though that brings me to $1150, I'm not interested in paying the extra $100 for the premium package (trip computer, automatic A/C). My dealer thinks I am insane for this. I don't use A/C unless it is really absurdly hot outside, and I just don't like the idea of automatic A/C. I think I can handle turining it on and off when I want to, and I'll probably spend less time doing so than I would turning off the A/C every time the computer turned it on unnecessarily. I can't see how the trip computer would really improve my driving experience at all, either. Just not necessary. I'd rather take the $100 and put it toward fog lights, or "chrome" bumpers.

On the other hand, $100 for automatic A/C and a trip computer probably seems like an obviously great deal to some people. It's really about what your own personal preferences are.
