I’m with MINI USA. We just want to assure you that we have heard you, and MINI is currently investigating this issue. Our apologies to those of you who have experienced problems with your windshields. As soon as we have any information at all, we will report it here. In the meantime, please continue to work closely with your dealer, who is in the best position to assist you. As always, we are available at 866.ASK.MINI if you’d like additional assistance.

What? Nobody has anything to say about MINIUSAs comments?

How many windshields needed to crack before MINIDivision piped up?

Nobody has anything to say about MINIUSAs comments?
Let me first say that I am fortunate enough (after 3 mos and 7K+ miles) not to have any malfunctions with my MINI machine. (*)

That said, it *seems* to me that MINI USA's presence/voice in this forum is somewhere between robotic and uncaring. There always seems to be the same non-commital, uninvolved response to pretty much every issue reported. I have not seen any definite commitment to a resolution, regardless of how small the issue is.

After so many of these same responses from MINI USA, I am not surprised at the lack of anyone having anything to say.

(*) As a side note, should I have seen any any malfunction after 7K+ miles? What has been your experience at this mileage? Mine is an '03 N/A (i.e., not the Cooper "S&quot. Many thanks in advance.

Oh, we have commented. MINIUSA posted before about this. There is now a two page thread in Beneath the Bonnet

The stress cracked windshields are the most serious concern I have for after warranty out of pocket expenses. Hopefully MINIUSA comes up with a true fix (unlike the version 2.0 coolant tanks which still leak).

Yes, There's been allot said for many months now!

Now that they admit they know there's a problem, lets say Woo Hoo! ! - maybe not!

I have had to pay for a windshield in my Honda Accord (rock hit me) and it was expensive. I would not want to have to replace a windshield that has not been hit by a rock! When I was hit with the rock, I knew it would crack when the weather got cold and it did.

This whole issue pretty much detered me from buying my Mini. It seems to be a great car, but really, no one can really prevent this issue. As a business man myself, they should take care of this problem and reimburse their customers. Customer relations is the key to a successful biz and product. They've heard the problem, now's the time to fix it.

Thank you. I currently have a broken windshield that I am waiting to find out if MINI will cover it under warranty. I was told by Hank Aaron MINI in Atlanta that they had to keep my car overnight in order to let the adhesive set. This is a problem for me as I live 2+ hours from the closest dealership and I can make a day-trip of it, but a rental car and 2 days is a serious time commitment to fix my windshield.

I'm going to make my appointment to have it checked on Monday.

Oh and I was also told by Hank Aaron that if it was not covered by warranty that it would cost about $600 to replace a windshield. Is this correct because it sounded outrageous to me and I am not going to spend $600 every couple of months on windshields. . . .

Just for the record and to prove that the windshield issue does not affect all MINIs, we still have our factory windshield after 10,500+ miles of motoring. Absolutely ZERO problems with it. I am not saying a problem does not exist but there has to be a missing variable here because so many other owners have replaced their windshields several times and we on the other hand still have the original screen.

Also for the record, our '02 Cooper CVT has the standard sport suspension (Not SS+) and 15" non-runflat (Continental) tires. Build date: 8/02.

Does broken windshields affect mostly cars with firmer SS+ suspensions and harder 16" or 17" runflat tires?

Also I would advise everyone to carry $0 deductible windshield coverage in your insurance policies if possible. Regardless of the scope of the problems with the screens, having a ZERO deductible glass replacement provision in your policy is an absolute life and wallet saver.

I think MINIUSA's presence is welcome in these forums and at the very least they appear to be addressing the issues and listening to what their customers have to say. When was the last time you heard a car company genuinly cared about their customers??? You should read some of the stories posted by former Ford, Volkswagen, et al owners.

GEICO offers an extended warranty program on new cars which I wasn't interested in.. They offered it to me when I bought my Civic Si. Warranty? Honda? We don't need no stinkin' warranty. Anyways when it came up again when I checked on the MCS rate, they also mentioned that it lowers the windshield deductible to $50.

I'll check on the exact amount but it was pretty nominal and extends the warranty to 7 yrs/100k.

Here in Florida it's a state law that insurance has to cover winshields. That means $0 deductable for winshields.

Just so there is no confusion about why this topic is being locked:

MINI Division has now created two threads on this topic. They seem to want that in MINI Talk, so I am going to sticky the original thread to the top of MINI Talk for MINIUSA. This topic is being locked so that all future responses on this important warranty issue can be focused in one place (the orginal thread).
