R50/53 ONEBALL EXHAUST
ONEBALL EXHAUST
HELLO EVERYONE IM NOT REALLY GOOD AT THIS FORUM THING...NOT TO SURE IF THIS THREAD GOES IN THIS SECTION BUT I HAVE A 2004 MCS I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE HAS A ONEBALL EXHAUST THEY ARE WILLING TO SALE
Check the marketplace section (FS=For Sale, WTB=Want to buy) Out the door will probably be easier just to go to a local muffler shop to have it done (don't forget to tell them mandrel bends!), unless you can find someone local to you.
And you can shut off the caps, it comes across as yelling when on the net.
Welcome to NAM, hopefully you'll feel more comfortable with the forums after you spend some time here.

what is this one ball you speak of.. the Lance Armstrong mod ?
The part the OP is probably asking about (unless he really wants the whole exhaust system) is:

I've seen people getting this done anywhere from $35 to about $130 -- I have an appointment this weekend for a $100-job. Cabrio owners can expect to pay more due to additional bending required for us -- and should keep in mind that the minspeed part linked above will not work on the cabrio.

the muffler shop by me did it for like $80 and it was my fav mod probably. the exhaust sounds stupiid not oneballed! it is way hot ; ) 2nd mod. first was debadge the cooper logo hehe
I had mine de-balled to one this past Saturday afternoon-- it was a 30 minute operation and cost me $80. Totally worth it-- its throaty and you can feel more back pressure-- I've even gotten a few pops going from 1-2 an 2-3.

Yeah...go price that stuff these days...

Let alone Mandrel bent to shape with clamps. Methinks it's not a bad deal..
If you want to go with SS.....then yes it is a good price. But the rest of the system is not.....so it is a high price to pay. Especially when you can have a muffler shop do it for half the price.
Agreed! Not that I don't appreciate quality workmanship.
When setting this MOD up with a muffler shop, what exactly do I have to tell them to do when I'm "reminding them about the mandrel bends"? Do I just tell them that I want the resonator removed and let them do the rest, or must I tell them something special? Note that I have the 2005 cabrio.
Thanks!
Thanks!
^My understanding is that this can be a real PIA to do on a cabrio, so you may want to check local clubs for recommendations.
I know Dan at Grassroots can do a good job -- he did Blimey's -- in case you pass through Thomasville, NC on the way to/from the Dragon sometime. I'll let you know how mine turns out -- that's where I'll be on Sat. for mine.

Yeah, the cabrio one-ball is a PITA... Dan actually does them without using any new pipe - just cuts pieces from the removed resonator section and makes that work... here's a photo of mine, not pretty but very functional...

Quite a bit of hammering / test fitting to get it, though...

Negatory...if you were feeling more backpressure, you'd be feeling less power. There seems to be this continuing myth about the "need" for backpressure - a completely false myth by the way. Balancing factors in exhaust design are velocity and mass air moved, not backpressure.

Why would you want to put it back to stock? For warranty work? This shouldn't matter a bit for any warranty work done except if you have an exhaust problem,
O nice then w/e ill get it done....this whole time i thought it would mess with my warranty
thanks everyone
I drove home with the extra ball in my trunk (the sucker must weigh 20 lbs) and will store it if I ever need to get something fixed with a major repair for warranty purposes-- I suggest you do the same.
I predict an exhaust mod will NEVER have any impact on warranty... one way or another... and it's non-trivial to switch it back, anyway... better off knowing a good shop that does MINIs and has extra OEM exhausts laying around (our garage here does)... and get a take-off from them if you ever needed one for some odd reason...
