I'm about to run out of my extended warranty. I've about gotten my cost back out of it - not quite, but close. The things that were covered under the extended warranty were taken care of without any hassle, although I did pay a $100 deductible each time (per repair, not each individual part). The most recent repair wasn't covered, because the parts that failed were hoses that are considered "normal wear parts". I've got one more thing to fix that might be covered, if I get the car in in the next couple hundred miles. We'll see.

i wish i would have purchased the extended waranty because i'm at 55K now and there is a clicking noise coming from behind the supercharger and it creeps me out a lot. it hasn't robbed performance or anything but i'm definitely creeped out by it.

I've been on the extended warranty for a year and not used it. I threw a code and had to pay the dealership's regular hourly rate for diagnosis and an ECU reflash before the warranty company would even do anything.

Which extended warranty company do you have?

I got the one through the dealership. I added 4 years and 45000 miles for about $1800, the day before the original factory warranty was due to expire. It's supposed to be "just like the factory warranty, but with a $100 deductible per visit".

I got one on my MCS last year. I took mine in a few weeks ago and got the radiator replaced, lower control arm bushings replaced, oil pan gasket replaced, and valve cover replaced. The extended warranty cost me about $1450 or so, but the bill for the recent work was around $2500. I'm about $1000 up on this deal, and if the supercharger's water pump drive dies I'll really be in the black. I bought my MCS/JCW on April 15, 2005 and I now have 84K miles.

There are a lot of potential repairs that can show up in the 50K-100K mile range that the extended warranty coverage can save some real money.

As with anything, you have to evaluate your driving habits and risk tolerance before you buy.

I purchased one through Mercury Insurance right about when the original warranty was about to expire. I bought a used '02 MC with about 28k miles on it, and it was already close to 4 years old. The original owner(s) did not use it enough to work out a lot of the bugs that I've found through the forums, and been able to fix. Some of the problems were beyond me, and I also had the strut mounts replaced twice and the lower control arms. There is a discrepancy between the book's replacement time and what the insurance company allows, but I'm still about even, and I still have several more years and a lot of miles left on the extended policy.

Agro, will the extended warranty cover issues that may be traced back to your mods? I have a pulley as well (no ext. warranty yet...) and wondered how the warranty company would treat that.

I got the extended warranty and it covers up to 100,000 miles..I actually used it about 3 weeks ago and "no charge" to me. it covered 100%.. as for mods, the only thing they won't fix or replace are the mods, but as for being traced back to the mods, i guess that depends on the dealership...btw, even though I live in Vegas, i drive to Cali to have my MINI worked on, only because I have had no luck with the dealership here....goodluck

If you have the Certified Pre Owned warranty provided by Mini USA there is a whole slew of things that they won't cover. Mostly wear items but I had the MA tell me the navigation unit is not covered either which I have not verified.

Warranty work is $50 per visit. Which is what they charged me when I had the powersteering circuit separated from the cooling fan circuit.

I was not charged for the warranty work ($50)for them to upgrade my nav software due to not turning on when temp is below 37 F. I had the first service done (16,500 miles) at the same time so I think they gave me a freebie since that was $170.

My CPO extended warranty is good to 100,000 Miles or 6 years which is 10/2008. I doubt i'll hit 100,000 miles by October.

Qt about warranty

I bought the extended service warranty and have 46,000 miles on her today. I was told by the new dealership in Omaha ( I bought my car in Kansas but Omaha is closer for me)(90 miles verse 275) that they will not automatically replace my brakes. I was told when I bought the service warranty that at 45,000 miles my brakes get done free. My cars says I don't need another service for 6,000 miles. This would take me over the 50,000 mile warranty. Also is there a 100,000 mile service warranty? Not just a extened warranty. Also most all of my driving is highway not city so I've only had my car serviced twice. I got her new in May 2005. thanks for the help.

You have to look at the extended warranties from the dealers perspective. They are in the business to make money and if they believed the majority of the cars were going to need big repairs they would not offer the warranty.

Even if a supercharger goes out you can probably find a low milage used one and get it installed for under $1000. Most extended warranties are $2000 to $2500... Its usually best to take your chances.
