How many miles on your SC pulley?

I put on a 15% at 43,000. I'm now replacing my supercharger at 50,000. The cause is debatable... But for research sake, mine made it only 7,000.

And why are you replacing the SC? What failed?

I took it to the dealer and they determined it needs to be replaced... It sounds like a bunch of rocks are flying around inside it.

Go back and ask them what failed.
Could be the dreaded 'all the lube seeped out of the water pump gear' issue as shown here.
If so, it had nothing to do with the pulley.

I've got tons of miles on mine

Somewhere around 60k? A bad install can screw the pooch, but SCs (stock, non-modded) have grenaded in less mileage than yours.

Matt

ps, DO NOT buy the dealer supplied SC. Buy one off e-bay, from the marketplace, call the tuner shops, or Classic Auto Campus (NAM discount.) The dealer is the single highest cost place to buy a replacement.

I had a 15%, now a 16%

but I don't think that really matters. While there is a "red-line" for the unit, if you only spin it a bit more than rated, then the lifetime ought to be a bit reduced over the rated 100k. But these are soft numbers. There are SCs that have lasted longer, and some that have lasted less. Now that the early fleet has aged a lot, more accurate statistics should become more appearent.

My 02 MCS has 120K on it now. Installed a 15% Alta pulley at 23K - installed an m7 2% Crank Pulley at 70K. At 106K I replaced the old s/c with a low mileage ( ~10K) 05 s/c that I got a good deal on here on NAM. Not because the old unit was bad, just because... YMMV

101,000 miles on mine. Still running strong, and I put a 15% pulley on at 83,000 miles. Now that someone has mentioned it, mine does sound a little noisy while idling...

I have 95K on my pulley. Started with a 15% and at 28K went to a 16% plus 2% crank pulley. The original supercharger is still going strong.

Like innumerable others, I put a 15% on at 25,000 +/- miles and am now at 104,000. No odd sounds yet.

I put my 15% on at about 30K, and today I just turned 164,000 miles. So I have just over 134,000 miles w/ the reduction pulley. Still going strong, no problems yet.

Do you still have it? Did you perchance pull off the WP and see how much lube was left?

Me, I've a got a spare in the garage, but I'm wondering.

I put my 15% s/c pulley on at 15k and my car is at about 37k right now. That makes 22k miles with the pulley. Did I put my pulley on the earliest? Will my s/c be the guinea pig for durability? Tune-in ina'bout 40k miles - roughly 5 years from now and see.

This ('05) being my 2nd MCS, I transferred all of the transferrable parts on delivery (essentially 0 miles) from my '03 trade-in. Since pulleys really don't transfer as such for trade-in purposes, I decided to let the stocker ride for a while. I had my Alta 17% Gen 1 pulley installed around 15k miles. 55k miles on the odometer now and so far, so good- 40k w/ pulley.

Hope my new sc lasts that long...

You guys are making me rethink about not putting on a pulley. I'm a little afraid while its still on warranty.

Pfftttt - I wouldn't worry about it. The the reduction pulley is a very safe mod. The JCW comes with about the same reduction as the 15%. I'm thinking about going w/ the 17 or 19 when my supercharger finally needs replacing.

I'm getting the JCW SC and probably putting the 15% on that. I will measure the JCW pulley to find out the difference first... But the shop changing mine has seen a few go bad with no pulley. One died at 24,000 miles! But it will almost definitely void the warranty.

If you are getting the JCW then I wouldn't bother w/ the 15%. The JCW measures something like 14.8 (or something like that). The difference between the two wouldn't be worth the cost of the 15% reduction pulley.

I've heard that... And 10.8%, 13.x%... People saying they measured them... And even show a pic of stock, jcw, 15%... I will find out for myself since I will have access to all of them. But if the jcw is truly 14.8, I will keep that on there and sell my 15%.

Alta 15% installed on my '05 around 5k miles, it's at 46k now. No power loss or nasties going on......yet...... Of course that's what birthdays are for, new parts for the Mini, once they go bad.

I measured myself... JCW is a 10.9%. Here is another post from someone else. https://www.northamericanmotoring.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1549379&postcount=28

That's encouraging. I'm not a fan of the new Mini so I'm hoping to keep my 05 MCS "ad nauseum"!

Which major engine components have you had to replace so far?
