Help - the MINI Leaks
Nothing dripping from the engine -- the car gets soaked inside when it rains.
The first time it happened the roof was a litte damp by the driver's side door, so I thought I had left the window open a crack. But this time, I saw the windows all fogged and checked the windows -- everything sealed tight. The floor is just soaking wet right now.
Any thoughts? It's a 2002 Mini cooper S.

Well, that plug was in place. Nuts, I had such high hopes for an easy fix.
I'm onto the sunroof drain now. Do I just pull the headliner away from the a pillar?
Also, I found this loose right where that plug was located. In the little covey area. What is it?

Hey I've got the same problem!!! Right after I washed my car I always find the carpet damp by the rt foot rest. Where is the sunroof drain?

Sun Roof Drain
From looking at some old posts, I have made my best educated guess here. The sunroof drain runs from the sunroof down to the ground by running INSIDE the car. For part of the drainage pathway, the drain is metal tubing - from outside to inside the car. Inside the vehicle, the water is carrried by a section of rubber tubing out to the bottom of the vehicle. There are at least three drains, maybe four. There is a drain for your front sunroof on both the passenger and driver's sides. Apparently, there is also a drain for the rear moonroof (one post describes water around the battery). I have no idea where the rear drain tube is located nor where it runs.
The drain tubes can get clogged by debris, the rubber can get pinched, or the metal and rubber tubing can become disconnected. (I think that's what happened in my case) A leak on the passenger side can be expensive causing significant electrical problems.
For the front sunroof, the joint between the metal sunroof tube and plastic drain tube is located above the driver's and passenger's side doors. (there is one drain on each side) The connection is sandwiched between the metal roof and the inside cloth "ceiling" material (the material above your head when you are sitting in the drivers seat.) The connection is somewhere near the window possibly as far back as the A-Pillar (the large structure between the front seat and the rear seats.) The rubber tubing continues down through the A-pillar - a leak can spring anywhere along this drainage pathway.
I still have no idea how to access this area between the roof and ceiling, but I'm working on it. (likely just pull it down and reconnect the tubing.)
If anyone can add to the above, it would be appreciated?
Also, does anyone know what that part was??

I have a similar problem, but the plastic on the inside, seems to get a little water build up when it rains, or I was mine. Opened up the hatch to see water pour out, any idea? Thanks
let me weigh in on this one....my 03 MCS had the same problem...everytime it rained or went through the car wash the carpet would get wet...never noticed it before because in cali not much rain to be had all the time but when i was in iraq my dad came out one morning(it was at home in indiana while i was gone) and noticed the windows were fogged up on the inside...it was still under warranty so it was taken to D&R MINI in Indianapolis. A few things were discovered during the whole debacle....
1.the sunroof drain pipe(which runs down the A pillar under the moulding and down to the bottom) had become disconnected so they reattached it and put a clamp to make sure it didnt come apart again...
2.the AC drain pipe was installed wrong and was draining water into the car...simple fix
3.the pipe that acts as the access port for the wire harness through the firewall was turned upwards which resulted in water coming in...again easy fix...
after all that was covered no more leaks!
