Front seat backrest will not hold when adjusted to the desired position? I've had my MCS for a mere 4 days and it happened just hours ago. I tried to reset the seats as instructed on this website.

http://www.r53w11.com/frontseats.htm

I was able to correct the passenger's front seat on the first try. But the driver's side is still screwed up.

Does anyone have any suggestions, please help!!!

sounds like a broken seat frame....I had it happen on both driver and passenger seats....my MCS is 02 and it was a problem on early minis, but thought it was corrected on 03's.....unfortunately I had to wait 2 weeks for the replacement parts which made it very difficult to drive in a comfortable position, laugh...hopefully they have the parts in stock now....good luck!

Sorry to hear about your seat being broken.
I sent you via email the same seat fix website. You can try a few times but if you cannot get it to stay then the seat frame is to blame. It happens. I cannot get my seats to have your trouble. Seems to work OK both sides.
Call the dealer tomorrow if all is not well. Get a loaner if you can so that you can drive a mini and be safe. That is the least they can do for you- if they can spare a loaner mini then that would be great. To me, with the drivers seat not working it would be undriveable.

I went to the dealership this morning and got the recline problem solved. I can now do it on my own if it ever happens again.

Basically, I was doing the right thing in trying to fix it by pulling upwards on the inner lever and pressing down on the backrest with my free arm. But the service guy did something different; he put his whole body weight on top of the backrest (face down) and pulled up the lever up with his left hand. Wow, it worked...thank god!

Keep this in mind if it ever happens to you.

Thank goodness for a smart (and experienced) service guy. Lets give him three cheers. Hip hip Hurrah.
My seat was not broken so I could not figure out a good fix. It's good that your seat frame as not injured.
Sounds more like Greco-Roman Seat wrestling but if it gets the right and left levers synched correctly then great.

Now the trick is to never let that happen again. So when you want to let in a passenger to the rear always just push down on the outside facing lever and the seat back tilts forward and the seat slides all the way forward. Then to return the seat to the original position then put your hand on the top of the seat back from the front and push it back towards the rear of the car. Do not touch the lever on the inside center of the car- that one controls the amount of tilt back the seat will have.

Good luck and have a trouble free week with your terrific stereo Oops, too loud.

Careful when you show all your friends and neighbors how you conquered the crocodile in the broken front seat of your car. If you are not careful, it might be possible to break your seat frame.
We don't want to rename you Pooky the minicrocodile hunter.
Shucks I was thinking earlier that you would get a loaner for a few days- maybe a 3 series BMW- if they had to hold your crippled car with a broken drivers seat.
That's OK, PookyJr would have been lonely for her mom. Separation is hard on a new baby... and new mom!

Which dealer did you go to? If remember correctly, you bought your car back east (Hamptons) and had it trucked out to you. Did the dealer give you any flak about not buying the car locally?

I went to Allison BMW and MINI yesterday to get this issue taken care of. The customer support/appointment taker was at the MINI showroom at the time. I told her that my MINI was having problems with the seat and she called one of the service guys immediately over the P.A. system. She then asked where I purchased my MINI, and I said New York. She smiles and says that I'm the second person she knows who has purchased from NY so far.

I gave her some examples of horror stories about MINI owners not being respected or getting serviced promptly due to their choice of dealerships. She says with a smile that they don't care where the car was purchased as long they bought the MINI. "We're happy to have you as a customer," she says.

Great News!

I looked there, but ordered from Classic Mini in Ohio. Didn't want to pay the $2,500 for California air in the tires. Thanks.
