R50/53 Cooper Wrecked (Kinda Long)
Cooper Wrecked (Kinda Long)
Well, my 2006 Mini Cooper had 5480 Miles on it, when I got rear ended on the freeway during rush hour on my way home from work. It had just finished raining, and traffic stopped quickly, and my MINI's brakes and tires worked awesomely. I stopped missing the car in front of me by inches.
Unfortunately, the Ford Explorer behind me handles like, well, a truck. He had no control of his vehicle, and I watched through the rear view mirror as he plowed into my car. The domino effect kicked in, and when all was said and done, five cars were involved. I thought for sure the MINI was totaled. I got out and to my surprise, the hatchback was inside the car, but it didn’t look too bad. I drove it away.
It is now fixed. Total repairs were $4000.00. All is right with the world again. The worst part was driving the 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix around for a month while my MINI was repaired. I now call my MINI "Mithril", after the mythical metal of Middle Earth (uber geek, I know), and have license plates to match.

Had to drive a 95 Taurus wagon!!!!
It felt like a Hummer. Watch out behind you!!!!

on the name.
(As you can see by my name (with matching plates, BTW), we share an existence in Middle Earth geekdom.
)
I'm really glad you waited until you got things fixed up to post -- we all feel so much better about your situation. If you had still been in pre-repaired mode, we'd all be max bummed about your concave boot...
Incidently, are you a member of the PW Peerage? Please consider it if not (check out the link at the bottom of my sig). We are a proud fraternity and would be honored to have you in the group! Just post your number request in the thread, and you're in!

Awesome....at least you got her back. Mine goes in the shop mon due to a lady who thought it would be a prudent idea to not use mirrors when backing outta a parking spot....best part was she had the nerve to get outta the car and ask why I din't move when I saw her backing up......I was stuck with cars in front and behind me when she started backing up.
dirge, glad to hear your MINI has been fixed! Compliments on the name.
How... presumptuous of her.

Whoa - seems like $4K is the magic number for MINI repairs. Our MCSa got rear ended in January, took quite a hit for us from a pickup truck skidding on the ice. One month later and $4K in repairs at the local BMW body shop we got our ride back. None too soon - we were stuck driving a Chevy Cobalt!
It alway seems to be either the woman and/or boy with the hat on backwards/sideways in the clapped out honda with the loud exhaust (psuedo "race car"
) or the soccer mom in the behemoth SUV with one hand on the wheel, one hand on the mobile phone, and one eye in the rearview checking their hair that seem to be one inch off my bumper. I know that my car has what it takes to stop in time, which is more than you can say about the cars mentioned above.

The first anniversary of Rodan's wild ride is coming up. We got rear-ended doing about 50-60 by a Chrysler being driven by an impaired driver doing close to 100!
Wheeeeee! 10 weeks and $13K in repairs. They probably wished they had totaled it when all was said and done. Anyway, glad to hear you're OK and back on the road. These cars are really great at protecting their owners in an accident.

i love laughing when people say a MINI isn't safe. After looking over this forum for a while, all the crashes ended with the passenger/s getting out with a couple bruises and sores. take THAT stereotypical mini-haters!

, I like the name too!
I too have been rear ended. Luckily, I was in a loaner MINI from the dealer when it happened, but it was an illegal alien in a riced-out prelude with completely bald tires (funny how all that $$$$ was spent on a sh*tty body kit and then didn't bother with tires) and no driving license, identification, or of course insurance. It was raining and traffic had already stopped when about 30 sec later - WHAM! The sh*tty body kit took most of the force, the MINI just needed a new bumper. These are good cars we drive.

I recently pulled out into a median and got hit by a Dodge 1500 Thunder Road. He hit me dead center of the bonnet. So I really got hit head on. I only received a cut on my lips from the air bag. It could have been repaired but the frame was messed up so they totalled Auric. I owned a 04 MC fully loaded and it was worth 17K so I had a nice chunk of chamge to put down on a 06MC. This time I did not have the luxury of designing one. I just saw it on the lot liked it and bought it. These cars are safe...

I know what you mean. Hence 'Mithril". It's mightier than it looks.
