R50/53 Headlights...what's that 3rd thing?

This might be a dumb question, but MINI headlights have 1) a main headlight...2)the high beams...and then 3) that other round bit. Is that a zenon thing? It doesn't seem to serve any purpose on my Cooper.

Nope. Mine Just says "Xenon Technology" on it.

But seriously, I think that Ants is right...there's no purpose for it other than that.

It's a little tube that takes some of the light from the side of the high beam bulb and shoots it out front... pretty smart if you ask me...

I read somewhere that in the original design or in the lower priced MINI Ones that it was going to house the turn signal/marker lights to eliminate the need for other wiring in the bumpers, but now is just used to house the xenon logo for those MINIs so equipped.

Could it have been for the UK cars.The Classic Minis from the UK had an extra lamp that was a very soft beam.Like our park lamps but in the headlamp.
