Once upon a time there was a thread detailing how to remove the rear wiper and what to use to cover the resulting hole. Can't seem to get it to come up using the search function. Anyone remember that one? TIA
$10 for a delete kit? I wonder what it consists of. The only items I had to buy was a plug and RTV, $4 tops. Home depot only had white caps so I ended up going to Lowes and found black ones. They come 2 to a pack so hooked up a fellow club member.
yeah home depot has what you need. A crows foot puller helps a lot. My wiper was corrouded quite badly.
Mine was too, but all I had to do was rock it from left to right, while pulling upwards and it popped off. Be careful when removing the plastic cover (when you expose the nut that holds the rear wiper arm on). I accidently broke 1 of the little clips inside it that make it fit snug around the nut...
Other than that, yeah, just a plug (my local hardware only had 1" hole plugs), a washer (1" inner diameter), and silicone will get the job done.
The washer just helps keep the hole plug up against the glass snug.
Edit** WooHoo! Post 300! Watch out boys, here I come It's taken me a whole 3 years
I put the pug through the whole, and the washer was on the inside of the car holding the plug nice and snug to the window. Make sense? If you want a picture, I'll take one today...
Does anyone know what the specific part # is for the plug? I've been to both Lowes and HD and haven't been able to find anything remotely close to what everyone is using.
I don't recall the part number, they can be found in the hardware section in the nylon plug drawer (can also get plugs for the door). Hope that helps a little.

Yep, find the aisle that has all of the screws in little bags. Often around there, there are also gray pull-out drawers with images of what's inside. Look around for the plug drawer and pick the size you need. Lowe's is more likely to have them than home depot
I did this to my vw gti! i bought a 2 pack of black plugs at LOWES for a couple bucks! and then used the silicone! not sure if i want to do it yet to the mini.
Thanks everyone. Based on my experience with the plastic plugs for the door panel, I can confirm that Lowe's (not HD) is the hot ticket. Check the specialty hardware section. No wonder their stock is going crazy today ! Off to the garage.
What acronym....RTV is the name of the silicone and can be found in any hardware store....
Last time i checked RTV is an acronym not a word...but thank you for the explanation. Silicone is a bit more commonly known rather than rtv. So my apologies for not being up to date on silicone vernacular.

If you were paying attention, post #6 (above) clearly states silicone

When in doubt, GOOGLE! Put in RTV and the first thing that comes up is silicone.
Also:
What does RTV mean?
Room Temperature Vulcanisation. RTV means that the silicone in question is capable of curing at room temperature. These materials tend to be supplied in a liquid or semi liquid form.
And to clear up other potential points of confusion when Andy257 said he went to "Lowes and HD", he meant the hardware stores, not the theater and Harley Davidson.

Yes, I read that. you said silicone, but it wasn't clearly stated that it was the same as RTV. Damn me for not knowing Room Temperature Vulcanizing. my public school system failed me!
