R50/53 What Came Before?
From time to time on this forum I see references to what people drove (or currently drive) before their Mini. So, how about a little poll... What was/is your "daily driver" car before/until your Mini arrives? I realize that many of you are purchasing the Mini to have in addition to one or more other vehicles (i.e., you'll motor in your Mini, but not to the exclusion of all other vehicles). But what did you most frequently drive before the Mini?

I'm driving a 1995 C36 AMG w/70,000 Mi. My wife thinks im crazy but she has not driven a MINI (or even a manual trans) yet. She has a big mushy luxo barge so Motoring is not yet in her vocabulary, soon it will be!

A black 2000 VW Jetta VR6. I love the car. I have already put 60,000 miles on her. My S won't be in until January so I will have had my VR6 3 years before I replace it with my MINI. That is about average for me. I have a hard time keeping the same car for more than 3-4 years. Everyone has to have some type of vice!
2000 jetta GLS will be booted by my pepper white/pepper white baby.
I haven't driven manual in over 3.5 years, but I will embrace my MINI w/love.
I don't know if there is a better car to drive other than the MINI.

We have two trucks, a car and a motor home. We will be keeping them all when the new baby arrives.

1991 Honda Accord Wagon with 150k on it. This is the daily driver.
2001 Damon Daybreak, 30 foot Class A motor home. This is our home away from home. We plan on getting a trailer to tow the MINI or the Syclone.
People think we are crazy for owning so many cars. They keep asking me which car is going to be sold when we get the MINI. I look at them like THEY are crazy to suggest such a thing!

My previous car was a 1991 Volvo 240 wagon-- 0 to 60 in about 5 minutes, bless its heart. It was a great car, but I absolutely love my MINI, which is my daily driver. I sold the Volvo. I'm amazed and impressed that people can stand to drive something else on a daily basis, saving their MINIs for special occasions or weekends. I look forward every day to a ride in the MINI!!!!
1990 Jeep Commanche Pick up. 4x4 Longbed, Dk Blue.
But that was out of practicality. My previous cars included a 1983 VW Rabbit, and an 85 GTI. I'm a Hatchback guy.
Interestingly, the MINI has more interior room than the truck, so I'll be going to a MUCH shorter, larger car.
I Also have a 1995 BMW Motorcycle that will be vying for attention with the MINI.

My Mini is the third car I have had in the 4 years I have been driving....(I didn't get my license till I was 20).
First I had a '87 Ford Tempo that we paid $500 for and then put $2500 more work into it....it was not a safe car. It would stall randomly while moving through intersections and I couldn't take it on the highway because when I got it up to 50 MPH it felt and sounded like it was going to explode. I drove it for 2 years (and then the engine....you guessed it....exploded).
Then I got a '91 Honda Accord which was MUCH better, and had much lower mileage because I guess the previous owner never drove it very often. Which leads me to believe that it sat in the sun alot and hence the paint was in rough shape. But it was a good car and I drove that for 2 years also and sold it with just over 80K miles on it.
2 weeks ago I got my MINI!
I don't know how I ever drove anything else.....I am now entirely spoiled about cars.

My Mini Cooper S is replacing a 96 Civic EX. Before that I had a 91 Integra, an 89 Jeep Cherokee 4.0, and an 85 Prelude si. My Mini is my first brand-new car! I can't wait!
A 1974 BMW 2002, in exellent condition. I know we all appreciate our MINI's, but getting out of a 28 year old BMW and into a new MINI is like getting out of the Spirit of St. Louis and into the space shuttle. The irony of it is, the BMW took me to Spartanburg SC in Feb. where I saw my first MINI Cooper "S". I also have a 90 325is and a 95 BMW R1100 RSL motorcycle. Long live the MINI. MB
My daily driver was a 1996 Volvo 850R, with 88,000 miles on the clock and still runs a quick as it did 6 years ago. It is still in the family the 318 ti was what had to go, great little car but NO power. So now in the stable is the 2002 MCS, 2002 M3, and the 1996 Volvo 850R
MiniMax,
That is cool you have a Bully to keep you company in your MINI. I have French Bulldogs and my male, Beavis, goes to all the cruise ins with us on Friday nights. He is a rotund miniature version of the English bulldog and a bit bigger than a Boston terrier. He will love the MINI. I am thinking of getting him some Doggles that I saw online a few months ago. They would totally finish the outfit!
LMini, Tell your boyfriend to visit the syty.org web site and check out the sys and tys there. Yes, hubby and I have a need for speed.
Oh, for the person who thought they were the ONLY one with an Accord, I have one, but it's a wagon. You see, we have to have things a bit rarer than everyone else! The Sy, the Ty, the french bulldog and the MINI. We want to keep up with the Jones' but we don't want to look JUST like them!

Before Dolly (My Mini...hehe,) I had a 1991 ford explorer xlt 4x4 (great for hauling the waverunners,) and then once I graduated from college and began work as an RN, I bought a brand new 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix GT. That car was sweet....but no where near as sweet as my MINI
