R50/53 My first day with the MINI
Briefly: JB/W MCS all packages, sunroof, 17's
- Deposit placed in September of 2002 in Washington with a 12 month wait
- Deposit placed in October of 2002 in Utah with a 6 month wait
- I fly to Utah from Portland June 1st and pick up the car at MINI of Murray June 2nd.
- 475 miles the first day, no hesitations to speak of (I thought there were but it was my fiance trying to start in third
)
- 300 miles the second day and made it home (a boatload of bugs to clean off but waiting for the sun to go down and refreshing myself on the detailing threads)
Interesting notes:
- People really do look at you when they drive by (as we were keeping it mellow for the break-in we were being passed and everyone rubbernecked and some waved like we were in a freakin' parade) - I thought that would be done by now but a pretty neat experience
- Lots of comments in gas stations (in Pendleton Oregon - very small town - had three people come up and ask what kind of car it was - one guy in a TT - the 16 year old attendant knew what it was and even how to take off the gas cap)
- In Hood River Oregon - see super-sweet city - again at a gas station one guy came to take a look and almost sat in the car without saying a word
- When we got into Portland we hit a traffic jam - middle lane with no blinker as the left-lane is moving but no room so resign to being stuck there. I see an EB/W MINI coming fast with traffic in the left-lane so I tell my fiance "Watch this" I throw my blinker on at the last second and the EB slows way down to let me in with a big 'ol wave (I did not cut her off but merely put on my blinker and she noticed - I didn;t even make a move until she motioned me in)
Thank you EB on I-84

I always think that the gas station is the place to get lot of attentions if you really want some... !!! They just keep looking and looking
Once in awhile when I go fill up my tank ... people will approach me and comment on my CHILI RED MINI ...
" That car is sooo cute ..... "
" I love those red sports seats "
" LOOK MOM .. .A MINI COOPER " " MINI TROOPER... what SON ?? "
" Can I seat in it ? "
" Can you show me those Xenon lights on your car ? "
Just keep motoring safely and enjoy the smiles !

Owning this car reminds me of the old skits on Saturday Night Live with Steve Martin....where he would just come out on stage and stand there for about 4 or 5 minutes and just say...
"What the Hell is that?"
As many different ways as he could - once in a while Bill Murray would come out too with his Carl the Caddy look on his face and join in....

It was pretty bugged up after the trip from Utah - no sooner did I get done washing and drying than the UPS guy pull up with all my Zaino products. I'm new to the detail game so I'm trying the Zaino products out on my black 4Runner this weekend.
cool....glad to hear ur keepig her clean
since i travel up there so much....the only thing that disgusts me is when my lexus gets dirty when i am driving in porland or seattle..
its pearl white, so the muddy rain water is noticeable. it sucks. i wash it, and a minute later it rains

CONGRATS PDX!

be forewarned; the oogling from normal people won't stop, tee hee
take it easy on the engine for about 1000 miles (no WOT, not over ~85mph)
I love your color combo, Motor-On!
Cheers,
Ryan
