Painting Fender Flares

I've been looking at a lot of NAM MINIs and I see that some of you have painted the fender flares. I would like to know price range and what process was taken to take the "rough" surface off and make it paintable. This gives the car a totally different look! Thxs!

I have the aero kit which takes a way a few of the fender flares. I ended up paying:

6 Fender Trim Pieces: $325

Repaint of the Aero Kit Front Bumper: $300

Paint Two Aero Kit Side Skirts: $350

Rear Aero Kit Bumper Paint: $200

If you do not have the aero kit, expect to pay anywhere from $1K-$2K.

Without the aero kit, you will have about 5 more fender pieces to paint, as well as the whole side skirts.

Here is a picture of my MINI with painted arches:

I love the painted arches look on the Jet Black. But since I didn't go that route, let's compare an almost similar car without the painted arches. My headlights are getting painted today to complete the exterior look.."for now".

Aerokit side skirts prepainted at factory ordered from Classic--around $550 shipped and a 6 week wait. Black Wow on the trim. Stock front and rear bumper. Strassentech lip on front bumper--matched to existing textured trim.

They look like the Kazera KZ-B from tirerack, but they don't have them in black on there. Hmm!

Today, thanks to Bar10Girl, her boyfriend, and Flingger, we painted our Xenon headlights today. Better pictures coming after headlight rings are finished and during the daytime. Top "Machine Gun portion" painted with Charcoal Metallic and lower portion painted in black.

Flinggers:

Mine:

Headlight rings are still being worked on.

Man...I am so jealous! What method did you use to pry open the headlights?

An oven, but I will be posting a writeup on the full procedure. It's not terribly difficult, but there are lots of potential "gotachas" that you need to be careful of. Flingger broke a tab on his Xenons as he tried to wrestle it back together. It took us 12 hours to paint 2.5 sets---2.5 because mine was painted twice due to some paint curing issues--wetsanded with 320 and resprayed.

I'll be moving from TX to CA in DEC. I will be stationed in Monterey. Anyone knows a good body shop in the area to get the fender flares done? Also, a good shop to get the MINI worked on (power mods and stuff)?

The lights look awesome but I would have painted the chrome rings black instead.

Thanks. Yeah I considered that, but with all the rock chips that would have resulted in painting the chrome, and the fact that body colored rings often make the headlights look smaller, I still wanted some contrast without looking like a blackeye.
