Hey everyone,
I have been watching in the wings for a few days and wanted to introduce myself and tell a hell of a story.
About a year ago I became enthralled with the MINI after seeing some ads. I went to the local dealership and test drove an MCS--all smiles, had to have one...
I came home with all the catalogs, pamphlets and specs and proceeded to try to convince my wife how I needed this car, the handling, safety, etc... She listened but is the practical type and pretty much shot me down. I decided to go into stealth mode and start planting seeds around the house. I put up an ad on the fridge, left booklets around on tables with other magazines. I would point out the billboards on the side of the road but to my dismay she would always give me one of the "too impractical", "death-trap", "looks goofy" retorts. She even welled up a few tears once and put her foot down and told me to stop talking about it. I was heartbroken.
Fast forward to May 19. I was graduating from Medical School the next day and was greeting some friends outside that were staying with us. My wife was running some errands so I didn't expect her home anytime soon.
I know all the MINIs in my area so when I looked up and saw an unfamiliar one coming down my street I got my friends attention and pointed it out,"Hey! Look, a MINI!" As it got closer it took a second to register that the driver was my WIFE! She pulled in the drive, my blood pressure dropped and she opens the door and I say, "what the @%7* is this?" She gets this big grin on her face and says, "This is a loaner" "why?" I say. "Because I bought you one!" I couldn't believe it. For over 6 months she had me completely duped. She proceeded to tell me how she went into the dealership walked right up to the saleswoman and said "I want to buy a MINI." "Don't you want to take a test drive?" "No, let's get the paperwork done".
So I picked it up yesterday. MCS, Dark Silver, Black top, Premium package, Black interior, 35% tint. I love it. Bought all kinds of microfiber towels, Klasse, MINI care products. Told the dealership not to wax it. No spiderscratches on my baby...I'm sold on Klasse. The Gloss sealer is great too.
Sorry for the long post, it's a great car and I could talk about it all day. I find myself making up reasons to get out to drive it.

Will post pics later!

Man, that was awesome. What a woman. She have a sister? Congrads on the choice of wife and car. You have a couple of real keepers there.
Cheers,

Woah there. If we're talking shared finances and a major purchase such as a car then there needs to be some degree of agreement. I'd kill someone if they used 1/2 of my checking account to buy a car I didn't want... But then, we digress. And it was just a fabulous surprise that would have been COMPLETELY RUINED had he done what you suggest. Yay for drnick's patience!

drnick - Wow, how very sweet. Most would say you are lucky to get a MINI, but you should be thinking about how very fortunate you are for marrying a wonderful woman. Cars come and go in our lives, but... - this story seems to put that all into perspective. She sounded like my husband in the beginning with "death trap" and not wanting me to get one (a little role reversal for you!), but he too, just wants me to be happy in the end, and after seeing the passing scores with flying colors in safety, he had to give in. I now see him grinning slyly when he's behind the wheel. It HAS to be more fun to drive than that crew cab Chevy Silverado he has!!!! Just got mine on Thursday and still can't believe it! I'm really happy for you.... also because you got the MINI. NUMMYTIME

Hey,
Thanks for all the great comments. I wanted to add a bit about the "...growing some..." comment. For the past 4 years my wife has been the one working while I concentrated on school and being with our two sons at night and weekends. I am already the spender in the house, not to mention the sole driver of a new vehicle she has been making payments on for the past 2 years. Don't get me wrong, I'm no leech, I put her through Physical Therapy school prior to med school and basically raised our kids while she was studying. Our marriage is a partnership. That's how we have been together for 10 years. It would be pretty pretentious of me to buy a car without conferring with my business partner.

On a different note:
Can you get paint vials to match the code from the dealership. Picked up my first rock chip. Crap.

I find myself jockeying for some elusive position on the freeway now. You would be amazed how many street racers feel the need to come up beside and flex a little. I love it.

Does anyone's doorlock plastic surround bezel squeek at speed?

Ha Ha,
Good stuff.
What's the consensus with that plastic rock shield decal. Does it shine up with wax?
What damage if any does it do to the paint when it's removed? Any experience out there?
