my MINI was hit

well..
this is so sad to me, to have to even type this out..
but tues.. of this week, my husband was sitting.. SITTING, waiting for a light to turn green..
when a vitara ran right into him..
the guys excuse.. while my husband yes.. SITTING at a red light.. was.. that he thought my lil mini was going to run the red light..
so now it sits in charleston at the body shop.. sighs.. all alone, without me..
waiting for the beareaucratic BS insurance, decides what it wants to do..
to add insult to injury..
they gave us.. a ford focus! the horrors!~!!
so now..
i have to cancel going to MME.. because lil union jackie will not be ready in time..
honestly..
i cannot believe how wrecked i am.. that someone.. hit my car..
so if anyone is in charleston.. and they have time, stop and see union jackie at the mini dealership.. and give him a hug, cuz i know he is lonely, and tell him..
i miss him more

Ugh that stinks. I guess the hubby is OK? What was the damage?
I'm sure your baby misses you too!

Nooooooooooooooo

I can't believe the rash of read-enders there has been lately, and that's speaking only of the population we hear about here on NAM. It's as if "they" are out to get us or something.

Your husband is alright? The MINI can be repaired - or is that still questionable?

I'm certainly sorry it happened. An injured MINI is just.....so sad

If your cars at a MINI dealership, call them and ask for a loaner, at least for the trip. ...Oh and promise them you won't leave the Focas on there lot . They would probably like you to trade up anyway.

That guy's insurance co. being a pain in the *** isn't your issue. That's what you pay YOUR insurance agent/carrier for. Let them fight the fight on your behalf.

Be sure you keep an eye on your husband. Sometimes injuries don't present themselves until days after an accident. Being sore is normal...but it could be a symptom of something else too. Not being an alarmist, just a realist.

^ her insurance company can't tell the other carrier what kind of car to rent for her !!

Regardless, State insurance regulations dictate what insurance companies can and can't give you for a rental. Some make them give comparable vehicles, some only require a company to give you "basic transportation". That appears to be the case in the State where she lives.

Going through the other person's insurance company is great to avoid payment of your deductible (which you would eventually get back if the other driver is determined to be at fault) but it's not as smooth a process NORMALLY as going through your own policy and own company. Pros and cons, like most things in life.

Ps. Sorry to hear about your loss, lrc, but not so happy to read your general dislike for insurance companies.

So sorry to hear of your loss. Hope hubby doesn't get too sore and keep a eye on him. CR&PW's advice is sound; he's in the claims biz (I used to be as well, but it's been a few years). Wouldn't hurt to check with your dealer to see if a short-term loaner could be arranged for your weekend.
Oh, and the Focus isn't that bad! Not like a Geo Metro or a <shudder> Chrysler product. OK, I might be a little biased; our other car is a Focus.

I feel for you I was rear ended last Thursday at a...yup...a RED LIGHT too! What gives? My poor little Escape Pod was attacked by a moron on a cell phone who didn't know the cars in front of him weren't moving He will be going in the shop soon too. Good thing is, he is driveable. I'm not looking forward to the rental car I'm going to get . Glad to hear your husband wasn't hurt.

lilruffcat... very sorry to hear of your incident, and I hope that it all gets fixed OK.

However, I must remind you to please watch your language here. As frustrated as you (understandably) are, the site does have guidelines that everyone is expected to follow. See here -> NAM Site Guidelines

These stories are creepy, not so much because MINIs are being injured but because of the level of stupidity being exhibited by these other drivers. I do believe we are de-volving. It's good we drive MINIs that can help keep our motoring skills razor-sharp.

The early MINIs had unused rear fog lights that could be rewired to function as an entire added section of very bright brake lights. I swear they were the best thing ever because you simply could not miss those babies!!!

Geez, another person rear-ened at a red light?!? WTF?

And it seems like a just-as-genius excuse as mine too...

Glad to hear your hubby's ok though. Mine's in the body shop for a tear down too and will probably/hopefully get totalled.

Strangely, I also got a Focus as a rental car. On of the ZX4 ones. Not a great car, by any means, but not a horrible one either. When I sat in it in my driveway the first time after the wreck, it did make me want to cry...

And, unfortunately (depending on how cynical and mean you're feeling), airbags are cancelling out Darwin...

i feel your pain, i had to drive my sister's friend's focus wagon once, it was so horrible, i only had to parallel park it cause shes from some place thats not a city, and i mean even shifting the gears felt strange, it was like i was running a metal stick through a box of legos (absolutely horrible)

I have to say, I was involved in an accident once which was 110% NOT my fault, and my car was totalled. I didn't want to involve my own insurance so I filed my claim with the insurance of the girl who hit me, and I stayed on that claim guy's a$$ like white on rice for the next 2 weeks. It was the fastest claim I think I've ever had processed

But I'm sure he had a voodoo doll with my name on it by the time it was over. I was relentless. I worked in escalations at the time and knew exactly how to be a pain in the butt. I'd call each day at 8am for status, and if he didn't return my call within 2 hours, I'd call him back every 2 hours until he did. By the time it was over I knew the name of his supervisor, THAT guy's supervisor, and just about every other claim manager in his office. It was great.

He was soooooo glad to be rid of me

So it can be done, you just have to be really diligent and not afraid to be a complete pain in the butt!
