just got back. This was the first dealer event i've been to.... WOW...
the evening itself was pretty darned fun. door prizes, caravan, all that jazz... the local authorities shut down a major stretch of road between the dealership and the freeway for us, causing the smallest traffic jam this city's ever seen (kinda the opposite of the movie, i'm tired and my humor's gone dry...). there were about 50-75 MINIs that went from the dealership to the theater, it was about 20 or so mile drive, so the drive was cool, especially when we clogged up the exit ramp on the freeway.
the movie it self was really cool. it's the typical wannabe summer blockbuster... it's well worth seeing. it outlived my expectations and Seth Green stole the show. i typically don't go for movies like this, but this one's a winner in my book. my girlfriend and i give it two thumbs up. the only problem is, you see these MINIs doing outragous things on screen, and then you walk out to the parking lot, and sit in a MINI...
be forewarned!!!! when leaving the theater, keep in mind that in real life people don't generally drive like that... it was hard to keep my foot off the floor, i really wanted to find some stairs to drive my car down!!!

Door prizes? Caravan? Sheesh, nothing of the kind here. Had to stand in line at the ticket counter just to find what theater the movie was playing in. Oh -- there was a box of posters you could grab from (I need a poster?) There were about 50-60 people there but everybody pretty much kept to their own groups. Did see a few MINIs in the parking lot and somebody asked me what the heck kinda car is that and why are there so many of them here and is there a sale on or something? on the way out. I guess one's mileage may vary.
I saw the film last nite thanks to the kind folks at Mini of Sterling and I was very happy with it. I approached it with a certain degree of fear and loathing as my affection for the original is as old as my addiction to Minis. But they did a very good job of coming up with a story that stood very well on its own.
The Minis were great but I think the Mini that stole the show was Theron's original Mini. (Does anyone have a precise read on the date of it? Looked like a very late generation). My only MINI-geek reaction was when they were trying to trim the weight off the MINI, they needed the Mini-Madness people to replace the sunroofs with carbon-fiber inserts!
My greatest shock was how completely PG the movie. The film could go straight to television - and I don't even mean FOX. Attempts to swerve around profanity bordered on the cheesey, but parents will appreciate it.
