Does anyone know where I can see the Anthracite interior option for the 2003 Mini? Are there any pictures on the internet? Will this option be available on the S? I'm really interested in this option because, frankly, the patina alloy finish currently offered on the S doesn't do a whole lot for me (although I think it is preferable to the silver finish).

Thanks,
Jay

According to info MINI released Monday, the Anthracite inerior will be available on both the Cooper and the Cooper S as a no charge option.

I found this picture in another discussion a few days ago, I hope it helps you...

Happy Motoring!

I was just at my dealer today (changing my order, again!) and I mentioned the anthracite option. My dealer told me it is an option for the 2003 S. They had no pictures or samples of the anthracite. But, my sales rep told me she would bring by her BMW that has the anthracite interior so I could take a look at it. Right now I'm getting the silver (don't like the patina too much) but I may switch to the anthracite once I get a look at it.

This anthracite....will it be just on the walls of the door or will it be the material used in the front dash as well? Anybody know?

batticus,
I think.... (based on the picture) it will be on the dash as well.
Note: The Patina trim is matched to the door trim and dash. I don't see why this would be any different. I guess only time will tell though.

According to MINIUSA:

"On the interior, an anthracite trim is also available at no extra charge. This option changes the fascia, down tubes, and door bezels to a stylish smoke gray on both the Cooper and the MINI Cooper S. The MINI Cooper S is also available with the high gloss silver interior currently found on the Cooper. "

Straight from the horse's mouth.

PERSONALLY, I really wish I could get the dash colour matched to the body a la PT Cruiser. The New Beetle has coulour matched door uppers. I like that. If there is any way to remove the facia for painting, I'll have it done myself!

Hey Derwood,
What is the "info MINI released Monday"? I haven't seen it, but I'll definitely be very happy if this finish is available on the base Cooper. My order goes in in late September/early October. The "brushed aluminum" (give me a break...) is by far my least favorite feature of the car, appearance-wise. It just looks cheap. I'll gladly pay the price increase for '03 if its means getting the anthracite.

While I'm griping about the interior, it seems like it wouldn't have been too hard to add a storage compartment between the console and the dash, above the cupholders. Maybe room for a few CDs... Presuming the space is wide enough, I plan on improvising something. Any lucky owners feel like commenting on the feasibility of this?

Can't wait until the Boston dealership (right around the corner from me) gets their demo car back. Someone crashed it over a month ago (just before I put my deposit down), and it's still being repaired... I'm trying to refrain from calling more than twice a week to ask.

Hey Chris, the info I mentioned came from a press release posted in the MINI owners lounge on Monday. I'll quote it here again for the benefit of those who haven't yet ordered their MINI or don't have a production number yet.

Woodcliff Lake, August 12, 2002.... MINI USA has announced Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) for the 2003 model year MINI Cooper and MINI Cooper S. Both models feature product enhancements and undergo an increase of $125. This means that the '03 model year MINI Cooper MSRP is $16,975 and the MINI Cooper S is $19,975. Both prices include destination charges.

2003 production begins September 1, 2002. For '03, the MINI Cooper and MINI Cooper S will come with a second remote key and both are pre-wired for a dealer-installed alarm system. On the interior, an anthracite trim is also available at no extra charge. This option changes the fascia, down tubes, and door bezels to a stylish smoke gray on both the Cooper and the MINI Cooper S. The MINI Cooper S is also available with the high gloss silver interior currently found on the Cooper.

MINI's sound system for will also be satellite-ready (an announcement on satellite radio will be made shortly) and will also offer the customer an auxiliary input jack to allow easy connection of MP3 players and I-Pods.

Motor On!

Thanks! I'm relieved to see that $125 increase in print from an official source, as opposed to the $1250 that someone was guessing elsewhere on this site. With a hike like that, I'd have to think about jettisoning some options (cruise, fog lights...)

Thanks again! Can't wait to be in on the Owner's Lounge. I imagine overstuffed leather chairs, an aroma of Cuban cigars, candlelight, chamber music...

I don't know if it's the picture, or just the way it looks on my screen, but the new interior seems to be grey on grey... the same grey on the same grey..??

Rocketboy_X,
I think you are right. But One thing I thought of.... the texture will be different.
Smooth vs. rough. This may be enough to set it off.
I think I'll have to see it in person to make a decision.

Thanks for all the helpful responses and suggestions. I'm definitely going to consider the anthracite when I order my S in four months (my dealer imposed limbo state). I'm wondering if the gray trim will be offered with black door panels. It really does look like the door panels are gray as well as the trim in the picture.

More reason NOT to have that in a MINI!

I for one, would like to see more body matched interior parts... There's a couple of pictures of a Chili Red with the Red interior, and that looks pretty darn sharp... I wouldn't mind a chili red dash instead of the patina...

Thanks for all the helpful comments. I just ordered my S three weeks ago and the dealership offered me the Anthracite, but no one knew what it looked like. It looks pretty sharp in the photo provided. My two-cents about the 2003 three color options is: My husband has a Mini Cooper with black doors & bright silver trim. It looks really good, and the silver trim really stands out, which is definately part of the coolness factor. However, the silver trim is made of plastic and I have to wonder if over time it will show dings & scratches. I know whenever I get into my husband's car and put on the seat belt, the male connector hits the silver trim on the door and I'm always afraid I've scratched the trim. I ordered the Alloy Patina, which I really don't like at all, but over time it's probably a better choice to hide scratches etc. I am reconsidering the Anthracite, it's pretty sweet looking. Thanks everybody, I really enjoy reading all your comments.
Dana

Yes! In fact, that colour matched interior is the ONLY thing I like about PT Cruisers. And I think the body colour (in my case, metalic gtreen) would look great with the silver down tubes, armrests, and patina treatment on the doors. I'm thinking that due to the airbag, that I'm not going to be able to get the whole facia off to paint it. Does anyone know?

Remember the great advantage to a dull black or very dark gray dash is it doesn’t reflect up on the windscreen in bright sun light.

I agree. My husband drives a PT Criuser and the sun reflects terribly off the dash. It is really hard on the eyes on sunny days. :???:
