Stuck Between 04 & 07 MCS HELP!

Hey guys, i have a delemma here. I am in the process of buying a 2004 MC from Mini of the hamptons (Great Great Guys to deal with) i actually pick the car up this afternoon. Well anyhow i was told that the 07 is a much better car but i test drove one and i didn't like the way it drives compared to the 2004.

Here are the two cars:

1. 2004 MCS Indie Blue/Black all the options except Leather & Navi, 15k miles CPO'd 100k Mile warranty. LIKE NEW. $18k (Very Good Deal)

2. 2007 Dark Grey with Sport Pkg, Premium Pkg, Not as many options as the 2004. -$24,500.00 (Very Good Deal)

So in closing these cars are both excellent deals but which one sould i buy?? I just love the way the 04 handles and feels with the Supercharger, i kinda look down on Turbo's after the experiance i had with a 2003 Audi A4 1.8T. I feel superchargers are more reliable.

Well just seeing what others think.

HELP!

Turbos have come a long way since then, but if you drove both and like the 04 then what is the big issue. Buy the one that you like.

Thanks for your response, the issue at hand is Reliability and not loosing a race to an 07! LOL. I have the chance to make this decision now (Nothing holding me back) and i just want to be sure.

You'd be saving A LOT, and have a much longer warranty with the '04.

If it were me, which one I liked driving, which one looked better to me, and which was cheaper (in that order) would determine which one I'd get.

What a horrible dilemma. I truly feel sorry for you. NOT.

Have fun and good luck! Remember to post a couple pics once you decide!

Bro, the new turbo engine is a gem. Developed by BMW and Pugeot.

The old Tritec Supercharged is nice, and proven itself.

If I were in your shoes, I'd get the 07, hands down.

Hmmm, Well i dunno, the older engine is a Cast Iron block as to the new an aluminum block. The aluminum block will dissapate heat quicker yes but it will not last as long as a cast iron block.

Who designed the last engine?

On the other hand, you also need to keep in mind that the 07 is a 1st run of the second gen meaning that it might have a few more bugs to work out.

Such a hard decision!

Chrysler designed the Tritec.

If you would like some affirmation of what your gut was saying, I'd say the 100K warranty tilts it to the 04. Consider your likely mileage usage and how long you think you'll own it. You really couldn't go wrong either way. Enjoy!

You may want to read:
http://motoringfile.com/2007/05/16/m...g-term-review/

Not only does Gabe review the 07 very positively, but if you look at his most recent post on Motoringfile, you'll see he's selling his '05 and ordering an '07 today

The two are so different but both are MINIs so you really can't lose.

I say go with your gut. Inside, you already know which one is perfect for you.

I had an 04 before someone rear ended me and totalled it. I replaced it with an 07 and so far I am very happy.

Check out the specifics on the warranty. I bet it has a deductible and any work has to be "approved" by the third party warranty company. In my experience they are a pain in the rear and not worth it.

That said, I think I would really have a hard time not hearing that supercharger in a new 2007. But I am sure there are enough benefits to outway losing that one. Personally I would want to wait for a few models years to come out in this new design.

That '04 does look like a great deal. I don't think you'll have any regrets.

Congrats!!

A fine choice! That's what I would have done. In fact, it's sort of what I did - had to choose between '04 and '05 a few years ago. Like the gearing of the '05, but between the Indi Blue, the thumb bump steering wheel, and the shark fin, I had to go '04. Now put that $6500 you saved into a good investment.
