someone may be killed

I may not be here tomorrow as if i find out the culprit of my misfortune I WILL probably kill them and be sent to jail (alright im being over the top). Still, I come out of school today to find my beauty that I've had for almost one and a half years scratch free (honestly perfection), had a scratch on the driver's side below the door handle (though nearer to the side skirt). Its not huge, but about 4 inches long, and definitely looks like a keying, and my SA and the detailer agree. All i can shout is the loss of pride i have; what a kick to the *****.

Tomorrow I'm going to school early to look at security footage to find the *********. I hope they have the money to pay for a body shop finish (it's deep enough and long enough where a body shop will be necessary if i twants to meet my standards) because if they don't I will not hesitate to kick their **** into the ground, and makie them kiss the tires of my car.

Assuming the culprit gets past the video tape (my school sucks really) im going to use one of those pen things for touching up, since BMW seperates the paint from the clearcoat, making it tough to apply nicely, especially for something of my scratch's size. Unfortunately the closest colors it looked like to Chili Red was toyota's super red 2, and GM's like tonado red, i think. Which one do you guys think si closer to Chili Red?

Well, if you have Comprehensive Coverage on your auto insurance (without a high deductable), that will cover repainting the keying damage. Don't know about New York, but in California, vandalism is not normally a chargable event (that gets you an increased premium). I have had 3 different cars keyed in the past 8 years (with probably a total of $5,000 in repainting costs) and no increase in Comprehensive coverage premiums.

If you need bail money, call me. Unforgiveable!

Before getting the touch-up paint check out this site for an alternative.

They have some excellent products.

Thanks for the site Scott, definitely what i was looking for and they have Chili Red.

caminifan: I'm actually in Florida; I just put Gotham on my location i guess because I like to be secretive (I really dont know, though, maybe it's just because I'm a Batman fan), but i really dont feel its enough of a scratch to justify utilizing my insurance, but i may look into it.

Your paying your insurance company $XXX a month, use them. So your paying an extra $250 in the deductable, but getting $700 worth of body work done, your making out good. Your paying your insurance company way to much to not have them fork over some cash when something happens, what is what they are there for after all.

Especially if (as is the circumstance in California) the keying is not a chargable loss.

Touch-up paint color chili red

I had to do some touch up the other day so I went to my local auto parts store here in Missouri (O'Rielly's ) My thought was to find a stock touch up color as close as I could get. The counter man sent me to the back of the store where the paint expert lives. He said what color do you want? I said chili red, so he gets on his computer and in about 10 seconds up pops the answer, chili red ( solar red). Then he says, how much do you need? Well I said, just enough for a few touch-ups.
Then he says, I can mix that for you in a few minutes but the smallest amount is 4 ozs. That is 4 ozs. in a can plus a small bottle with the brush.

Now the pre mixed stuff you normally get is about 1/2 oz at $5 to $7
and he was going to mix the exact color @ 4 ozs. for $7.95
Well the color was a perfect match and I have enough paint for all those chips in the future. Just thought you might like to know.

interesting tidbit ozark. Well heres the update; as expected my schools cameras weren't directed toward the area where my car was located so i dont know who did it still (which is really more what i wanted to find out). Fortunately i was able to file an incident report where my school by some means may choose to pay for the damages (even though i could have sworn i and everyone else who drives signed a paper saying vehicle damages were of no liability to the school), though they probably won't.

On another note i called up my insurace company, and since i am on my parents insurance plan and they choose the coverage it seems using insurance to fix it wont be happening since the deuctable is a grand (i havent gone to a body shop yet-maybe tomorrow, def friday latest-for appraisal, but i know there is no way the damages are closing in on a grand or above)

$1,000 deductible on Comprehensive? What did your parents get the coverage for? Were they worried the car would get stolen? A $1,000 deductible on Comprehensive excludes just about everything but theft of the car.

There are A**H****S out there. My MINI got keyed last year....a 3ft scratch on the drivers door in my parking garage that was not secured. Another resident left the garage door open. Some people just have no respect.

I feel for ya! Hopefully your insurance can pay for the repairs.

asked the same question to my dad, and his response is to protect from the (numerous) uninsured drivers that roam around SFL. To that i don't completely blame him; he has had a few accidents by the fault of an uninsured driver; still it leaves me in a sh*tty situation with my scratches.

someone used a metal shovel to shovel snow off my car two years ago... i have four huge white scratches all the way up the hood. i like to think of them as extra racing stripes. a few inches isn't that bad!

def not, but really annoying seeing as the car had 0 scratches beofer, which i was quite proud of since im a student, and use this car as a dialy driver, and am always parking in corner spots and taking all teh necessary precautions, and worse its the fact someone would go out of their way (where i park in the student lot is REALLY fart) to key my car

on another note got it appraised at BMW: $472. I'm not planning on getting it fixed by BMW, just got it appraised there for IF (though they prob wont) my school decides to pay for the damages (again dont know how it becomes the schools responsibility but the security guards said the school has their option to pay for damages on the property), I want my car done by BMW, or i can be sneaky take the $472 go to a cheap place and score some cash ( but i wont be that sneaky to a place of education, then im no better than the keyer themselves)

Yep, Ah feel yer pain.

I've managed ot keep my car damage-free for two years of parking in Brooklyn where I work. Sometime this past week, someone finally bumped my rear while the car was parked, leaving a pretty good mark, removing paint, and changing the shape of the bumper, if only slightly. It is not fixable except for replacement of the bumper or its skin, an expensive proposition. I don't want it to happen again to a new bumper, so I'm gonna get some of that bumper protection strip stuff and lay it over the offended area, and all the way across to make it look even. That way, if it happens again, and it probably will, the only thing I may have to replace is the stripping. Ah, the joys of working in a city.
