Alfa Returning to US!!!

I'm wondering how many of us chose a MINI because we couldn't buy a new Alfa. And how many of us would defect....
After an absence of more than a decade, Fiat's Alfa Romeo brand is returning to the U.S. market. In a conference call May 3rd, Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne confirmed that he has plans in place to begin distributing Alfa Romeo models in the U.S. through Maserati's dealer network, possibly as soon as late 2007.
Italiaspeed reports that the U.S. launch models will likely be the upper end of the range - Alfa 159, Brera (shown above) and Spider. And yes, this means that the 8c Competizione is also coming to the U.S.

I chose a Cooper S to replace my '91 164 that I purchsed new. If an Alfa had been available to replace it, I would have bought a 159 instead of the MINI. However, I won't be selling the MINI to buy a new Alfa. If they are still selling them when the MINI meets its end, then I will buy a new Alfa. Although they really are Alfa's as much as MINI's are Mini's...

For what I have heard present day mass produced Italian cars (Not Ferraris, Maseratis, et al) are still a notch or two below in reliability.
Like the French, the Italians also folded the tent in the US in the early 1990's..

That wouldn't surprise me one bit...
Italians are generally still artisans at heart, true crafsmen who would rather have the challenge to produce something special, and unique, as opposed to kicking-out assembly line items for the masses. Their vehicles are not the only example of this trait, but definitely a very popular one:Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, Bugatti, Ducati... Exquisite, and extreme, in many ways.
For the most part, they seem content on letting the VW's and Toyota's of the world kick-out more "ordinary" stuff, so I too would have some concerns about Alfa reliablity. My pop had a FIAT when I was kid, and yes, his name is Tony also (Fix It Again Tony)
. Maybe things have gotten better...
Afternoon breaks with bread, cheese and wine, take a nap, then get back to work on the Ferrari later, maybe even tomorrow... Ultimately, there might be something to be said for that approach!

As an insider working for a Ferrari / Maserati dealership, I would like to say yes, we have heard the same. Alfa's will be sold under the Maserati dealers.
Some people like the idea due to the fact that Alfa already has a AWD SUV.
