The New Acura RL (tons of pics)
This month they have been delivered to a resort in LA to showcase to dealers. They're doing a quick tour over September throughout the US at fancy resorts in each city.
I'll be hitting up the Biltmore here in Phoenix to see if I can get a sneak peek later this month.

RL
With a 300 horsepower VTEC(TM) V-6 engine, a revolutionary all-wheel drive system, dynamic styling and breakthrough technology, including the first North American application of satellite-based real-time traffic information, the all-new 2005 Acura RL is designed to redefine the luxury performance sedan category.
The RL showcases an assortment of Acura firsts including the Super Handling
All-Wheel Drive(TM) System (SH-AWD(TM)), the first and only all-wheel drive platform that distributes the optimum amount of torque not only between the front and rear wheels but also between the left and right rear wheels for breathtaking handling and optimum stability on all road surfaces.
The RL's 3.5-liter, 24-valve, all-aluminum VTEC engine is the most powerful engine ever in an Acura, generating 300 hp at 6200 rpm and 260 lb-ft of torque at 5,000 rpm. A 5-speed Sequential SportShift(TM) automatic transmission enables gears to be shifted using a shift lever on the center console or paddle-shifters located on the steering wheel.
To complement the high performance powertrain, Acura gave the RL a highly rigid yet lightweight unit body, that, as part of Acura's commitment to providing Safety for Everyone, includes the Advanced Compatibility Engineering (TM) (ACE(TM)) body structure. By dispersing collision forces over a larger frontal area, the ACE structure helps to provide even better protection for vehicle occupants while at the same time reducing aggressivity toward other vehicles in a frontal collision.
The RL's lightweight chassis and 4-wheel independent suspension components are tuned to complement the SH-AWD system and deliver a linear cornering feel, optimum traction and a smooth ride. The 17x8-inch alloy wheels are fitted with P245/50R17 98 V-rated Michelin all-season high performance tires. Large 4-wheel ventilated disc brakes with 4-piston front calipers, ABS, Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist provide optimum stopping power.
The RL's exterior styling reflects the abundant power under the hood. A sleek cockpit, forward sloping beltline and short deck lid accent the RL's pronounced wedge shape, making it look fast from any angle. While it is almost three inches shorter than the current RL, it is over an inch wider and offers more passenger volume than the RL it replaces.
Inside, the new RL features rich leather, genuine wood trim, an assortment of leading-edge technology including a satellite communications system called AcuraLink(TM) that provides the latest in in-car communications including, for the first time in North America, standard real time traffic information.

I like the interior. I liked the interior on the TL too. But the front end, im not too much of a fan, I think I like the current RL better. The rear looks like a Sonata or something... errrrr...Honda's been doing great on the interior...just
a tad more inspiration needed on the out.
well, this is just my opinion.

I like Hondas and all, but it's kind of a shame that they've built this all-new, all-singing, all-dancing, all-wd, satellite data empowered, high horsepower engined NiftyCar and yet made it look like an Oldsmobile.
Sure wish Honda had some stylists whose imaginations weren't ossified.

No doubt it will be a highly touted and sought after car, but it still looks like a ......... no, not a Hyundai or Olds, but a Honda Accord on the outside.
Why can't Honda use some exterior styling pizazz like Nissan which produced the G35, 350Z? Hell, even Chrysler broke out of the mold with their Crossfire and C300.

The interior is fantastic! I thought they were going to hit the ball out of the park with the RL after seeing the TL (which I love).
The sheetmetal is just so-so.
Its side-profile looks like a mix of Ford Tauraus (sp?) and VW Passat. (blah!)

yeah, I have to say after having a MINI it's difficult to get excited about a sedan :|
.... The Japanese makers have such great fit & finish generally, plus great reliability, and sound engineering overall-- but mostly Japanese styling will just bore you to tears
Brave New World: a Camry in every driveway... :shudder:

Honda/Acura; after delivering knockouts like the TSX and TL, really did a belly flop with the ever-unloved "Road Lounge"; once again proving that luxury can go unnoticed....completely.
But I must say: Thanks a TON for posting the pics, Haf! You rock!

Hafid and I showed up uninvited to the Phoenix RL Driving Innovation event. It's where they bring out a bunch of RLs (there were maybe 15 in all different colors), and teach all the sales people all about them.
Very impressed with the RL in person.
They also had a few E320s, a BMW 530, and an A6 2.7T. Which they were going to take to the track they had set up at another site, to compare to the RL.
