Switzerland and it's cars (picture heavy)...

Well a good month in Switzerland for work... DAM DAM expensive to eat and go out, but very scenic. I was stuck with sharing an exciting Nissan Primera wagon... My exicting co-workers were afriad that a Mini wasn't "Safe enough"... Don't even get me started...

Firstly, TONS of Minis running around, so many taking a picture was pointless- as I could just stand there and shoot! Also, Smart cars (guess paying homage to the original Swatch idea?) there too??? Out of morbid curosity, does anyone know why their are so many Dodge Caravans there (note in the background)??? It weirded me out, saw a share of American SUV's too. Tho Zurich has uber bucks...

Saw a few Smart roadsters (this one at the Amsterdam Schipol airport, I guess someone won the previous Smart city car)- Note the three bolt pattern wheels...

Plus some unique things, many Lupo GTI's, I like em :-)

This hybrid electric/pedal bike. Uses a battery and motor to assist as speed and up hills-

According to several people I talked to, the cool thing for city travel now isn't a Vespa anymore, a Ducati... No, No. It's an ATV???

The remaining photos (non-car) here-

Intersting wheels out yonder.
Find Shania's place?
So it's legal to drive ATVs on the road there? Cool.
Cheers,

Matt,

Hope you have a great time in Schweiz. While there, check out some of the local lore surrounding the requirement that all loyal Swissies (male) keep fully automatic weapons at home. Got to keep those Lichtensteinians in their place ya know.

Yep food ole CH is just about the wierdest place in Europe, this side of the Balkans that is.

A friend from Norway was just visiting. He showed me a pic of his Peugot 307SW on the company's site. It looked very much like a Dodge Caravan but with a large smoked moonroof extending up from the windshield about halfway back on the roof. but I'm surprised they actually have Caravans in Europe too.

Thanks for the very cool pics!

Last time I was in Switzerland (Early 2001) I saw a ton of American cars in Lugano and Lucerne. An early 1990's 4 door Buick Regal, an early '90s Chevy Caprice station wagon, neons, PT Cruisers, caravans, Ford explorers, etc.

It seems to me that the Swiss seem to have a fascination with Detroit iron, more than any other country in Western Europe.

Chrysler has an assembly plant in Austria and I believe they produce or used to produce PT Cruisers for the European market.

The PT Cruisers sold here are assembled in Mexico.

Yes, the Swiss do enjoy their Detroit iron. Strangely enough, I saw a handfull of late 1980's/early 1990's full size sedans. Also saw a few H2's One night I kinda felt like this-

...after some Zurich partying. Well I didn't feel like walking soo...

...I hopped into a vintage 1982 Buick Electra taxi. In top In TOP notch condition, it felt very strange :-)

On the mini-mized side-
I also saw several Smart Four Four's. I like em :-) Tho I bet they are dog slow
