Subaru question

Didn't really know where to post this.
My wife's car is a Subaru Outback sedan with the 2.5 boxer engine. She's now decided that she wants more power in the engine. The exact quote was "Can we put a pulley on it like you did on the MINI?".
I told her I'd look into it, but I have no idea where the Subaru fora are. Can anyone point me towards a site similar to NAM for Subies?

Thanx.

Nasioc is a great site, but VERY WRX-centric. You might also try: http://www.rs25.com/

Mostly imprezas there too, but of the naturally aspirated variety. There is not much power to be had cheaply in the non-turbo subie world...I tried!

Traitor?!?
When we got the new 1999 SUS, there were no MINIs in existence and few Minis to be easily had. I'll have you know I have a 3/4 inch sterling silver classic Mini on a chain around my neck, that I've been wearing since I finished high school in 1985!
Besides, it's the wife's car.
Thanks for the links anyway.

I believe that her car is naturally aspirated. There is no supercharger to do a "pulley" on. The only pulley you may be able to put on the car is an underdrive crank pulley that will free up a FEW hp by lessening the load of the engine accessories; I seriously doubt that it will have the same effect as the pulley mod on the MINI.

However, there are a few aftermarket turbo kits for this engine...

STAGE 4 TWIN TURBO

Yes, Susie (the SUS) is NA, and I explained carefully to my wife that there is no supercharger to do a reduction pulley on. She doesn't care how, she just wants an extra 20 or so horsepower out of the engine. Any idea of how difficult an install a bolt-on turbo would be? And would heat be an issue here in Las Vegas?

I helped my brother install one (single turbo). It was fairly easy since, on this car, you do not remove/replace the factory exhaust manifolds or y-pipe. You just remove the factory mid-pipe and install the turbo package (up-pipe, turbo, downpipe) between the factory y-pipe and cat back exhaust. It only took us about 6 hours to install.

I don't know how it would handle the heat of Vegas though. My bro had the turbo on his car for only 5 months and sold it to get a WRX STI.

i say go for the good old CAI, exhaust, and maybe a small small shot of nos? eh? that would be neato.

Lot's of folks doing stuff there.
I've got a '98GT wagon that might get a turbo if I get really bored some winter. Haven't looked into the details though.

How about going nitrous? instant 50hp+

I don't think you can get 20hp from simple bolt-ons on that car unless
you do all (i/h/e), maybe on a cold day. turbo charging requires a lot of
work and it might not be worth it.

How about trading it in for a WRX? You'd have to work out the financials to see if this is a viable option though. Just an idea

Soundest piece of advice on this thread.........messing with your engine will only lead to heart ache, pocket ache now (when you buy the stuff and pay for installation) and pocket pain later, when your "modded" engine will knock down the price of your car by a significant amount.

A more appropriate train of thought would be the new 2005, 235HP Outback. I looked at the WRX, but it's not big enough to carry 'stuff'. Many people, however, just want more oomph from their current ride. FI can be a fine addition to a used car.
