All cars are disgustingly heavy.

I can't believe this. Oh look an S2000, look how small that is, and it's got a 4-cyl, maybe, just maybe that's light too.. NOT! That's over 2800 pounds! 2800!!! An RSX is over 2700lb's! These are freakin 2-seaters.

And what about the real fancy shmancy hot looking "sports" cars. A 350z weighs over 3400 pounds. ACKKKK! :BARF: An SL 500 weighs over 4000 pounds. FOUR THOUSAND. HOLY COW!

Wait, what about I dumb even MORE money, maybe I'll get the really lightweight kings in here. Ah ha! A ferrari 360, that's the one.. at a whopping 2800lb's. Yikes. This wont do. Wait, but porsches! They are small and truly sporty.. Here we go, the Porsche Carrera GT, uh oh.. 3000lb's!

You pay more, you get.. more? I dont want more weight, what is this!

A MINI is STILL heavy at 2500 pounds but wow, 2500 seems to be very light nowadays, scary!

These aren't sports cars my friend. These are like the equivalent of a 300lb man running track and field. But this has become the norm, some 400, lots of 300lb runners.. and maybe the mini is a 250lb runner so they seem really quick and agile. Imagine we saw more cars that were actually much lighter from the FACTORY. Wow, I would love it!

Amazing acceleration and braking rates, and who knows, maybe, just MAYBE the handling may be brilliant.
As a plus i'll throw in some amazing unheard of gas mileage.

Blubberyness, go away!

PS: I abhor SUV's.

These days, all that weight is a byproduct of all the safety engineering built into the cars, not to mentions all the other cool accessories they come with.

Hey Antranik,

Come over to my house and play. The toys are: MINI = 2500 Lbs., MGC = 2300 Lbs. and MGA = 1985 Lbs.

p.s. Already sold the Lotus, it weighed 1500 Lbs.

I drove a 2000 SL 600 (the V-12) not too long ago. That beastie was powerful (almost 400 hp) but was so heavy to drive around that I thought I'd traded my MINI for a Tank for a day.

Cars are heavier but have more capacity, so i guess it all balances out.

Cheese, can you imagine how much more excellent it would be if it were 500 pounds lighter?

MGCMAN, yeah! let's play around! Can I cruise in the MGA? Then detour into the canyons?

Have you been in the interior of a classic Mini Cooper? There's tons of room in there, especially a bunch more than us in the back seat and decent trunk space.

Cars are heavier but have more capacity to fit the larger human bodies?
Then I guess we're left with about where we started in terms of overall
performance... (?) cars with more gas economy, but we're heavier so
not much improvement.. (?) is that where we're heading? Just not making it
worse environmentally, just keeping it the same to accomondate our lifestyle?

Hey it's not as safe as our MINI for sure, I agree, but if we all drove <2000lb cars, most of the time, getting hit by another car wouldn't be as destructive. Ah, I'm living in the LALA land, 8mpg SUV's are just too appealing to too many.

what is it with the SUV hating......how's about getting a life and LOVING your car and letting everyone else love theirs, whatever it is? I cannot believe people go around "hating" ogther cars....except of course for the evil MINI BRG jobs......nothing else deserves that treatment.....

Oh, about the SUV thing, well it's just ridiculous man. When I'm driving home, and near it, a lot of times there are lots of cars in front of me, to the side, and behind me.. and it's the weirdest thing.. they are ALL big SUV's. I am really a mini between em all.

Listen that's not what makes me think it's ridiculous though...
It's the fact that none of em even have passengers!

You would think that with improved metallurgy and development of other synthetic materials, cars would be built lighter. The latest trend are "crossover" cars of the Chrysler Pacifica and Ford Freestyle genre. They weight in at 4,000 lbs or more. Is Detroit really interested in fuel economy?

A 350Z weighs 3196 pounds, not 3400. But i agree, cars nowadays are WAAAAAY too heavy. I think its because of crash standards and improvements in handling. My mini already weighs a bit more than my friends civic.

Ah yes, the roadster version (convertible) is the one that is over 3400lbs.

Yeah, nowadays it seems like power is all that is wanted. The same car models that would come with 150-200hp engines a decade ago now come with options for over 300, sometimes even more. I'm guessing if excellent fuel economy is going to be the law of the land one day, these manufacturers want to put in the craziest, most powerful engines they can before it's all "over." Even for a ferrari, it has a large engine, but i'm sure it can be made lighter than what it is. Either my standards are too high or the people buying the ferrari's are too low.

If you want safety, you must have serious bumpers with shock absorbers behind them and crush zones in the front and side and rear and ofcourse an unexploding gas tank would be good and seats that won't bend in the off chance you will hot a solid object doing 60MPH which means an impact at 120 MPH......and if you ding your wheel at the first pot hole you hit you'll be po'd and don't forget the air bags, safety bels (not too lose, not too tight) and you like it quiet (the Mini has a full two inches underthe seat!!) so you need sound deadeners and on and on and on.......

On them SUV's......maybe they have large families (in numbers or is sizes).....like i said....love your machine.......give everyone else a break....your days will be sunnier......do spit at BRG jobs though.....
