From the titling, I was thinking this thread may actually be about BMW's design direction.

I would agree with that, although I would add the new corvette to that group.

I kind of like it....is it another Kappa-based variant? Looks a lot like the Nomad (pics posted yesterday)...which I also like.

It would look pretty nice parked alongside Mr. Teeny and our classic Pontiac...

As long as it weighs less than 2800 pounds, I think the 170HP figure will work out nicely. Think, oh, stock MCS - quicker than a Miata, but certainly not a testosterone-hosing behemoth. Peppy, but not dangerous; just enough horsepower to bring a smirk to your face.

Beneath the pretty skin it's just ... another Pontiac. Owned a Pontiac before, never again. Or any GM or Chrysler product for that matter. And to a lesser extent, a Ford product.

Your MINI has a Chrysler engine.

I wouldn't let the old GM-sucks-butt stigma get to you here; the Kappa platform really is leaps and bounds superior than any of their past platforms. OK, we won't really know until they get on the road and through some real-world miles, but I have confidence (something I never did with past GM products, yikes!)

The Solstice makes for a topsy turvy world.

The Pontiac looks like what a BMW is supposed to look like and the BMW's look like 1990's era Pontiacs.

ooh, I just noticed the front side indicator/reflector is very similar in shape and design to the MINI's! Good things get copied, as the saying kinda goes...

It's nice to see a US car company showing a design with a little soul. Now if we can make it run as good as it looks AND have it reliable, we might be onto something.
