Used to hang around in the "Passat - Other models" forum a lot before I sold my '93 Passat wagon (to get my MCS
). Haven't really checked in there in a while, though I do still have some Passat parts lying around the garage I should post on there for sale.

After hearing about my experiences here on MCO/NAM, my 66-year-old dad went online and joined VWvortex to research the Touareg. He was looking into getting the V10 TDI, and wanted more info. I was so proud!
(He ended up ordering the V8, since we have crappy diesel fuel here in the US still. Travesty!)

I'm Parklife both here and at Vortex, although in a former life I was ShelbyCSX at VWV.
Having owned several modern Volkswagens ('00 Jetta VR6, '00 Golf TDI, '01 Beetle TDI), and having to deal with myriad electronic systems which like to break at the most inopportune times, the sheer volume of gadgetry on the Touareg scares me witless.
Of course, I'm still a little peeved about the window regulator problems with my Jetta. Nothing beats having to explain to a date why, on my 1500-mile-old car, her window is but a piece of plastic duct-taped to the door!

>>If I were in the market for an SUV I'd definitely get a Touareg. Very nice, and it makes the case for VW's move upmarket much better than the Phaeton does.
I totally agree, and I'm bummed the V10 diesel isn't coming here sooner...who could argue with decent mileage and 550+ lb-ft. of torque?
My girlfriend bought a 1.8T Jetta this summer too...so I think I may have to join VWvortex myself...I'm surrounded by VWs!

While I don't think I'd choose a Touareg (if I were SUV shopping I'd be choosing between an FX or an X5, an SUV without an "X" in the name just isn't worth buying), if I were to do so, I don't think I'd get the V10. Sure, it might have mountains of torque and relatively good gas mileage, but it also adds hundreds of extra pounds right on top of the front wheels. That makes for some tedious steering and would ultimately turn driving the vehicle into a chore. Not an idea I relish.
Same user name. Dumped my Upsoluted Jetta torque monster TDI for the MCS.

I have been on the vortex for almost 4 years...wow that is a long time. I go by jeglseder and spend most of my time now in the Car lounge. You can actually get some useful information ther once in a while...
Never much to hang around the VWVortex forum, I sold my '00 GTI Mk IV VR-6, 5-spd. when I bought my MCS. Still like the products VW makes. A colleague of mine just bought an '03 Passat wagon with the W-8, 4-Motion and 6-spd. gearbox. Sweet, sweet ride. Got it for $8,000 off sticker price too!
