Jeeping Ouray Colorado

I rented a Jeep Wrangler for two days in Ouray. The only similarity with my MINI is 6 speeds, not counting 4WD high and 4WD low. I was impressed with it's abilities, no wonder Jeeps have a strong following. Hope you enjoy the pictures.

I've been there before. Some call Ouray the Switzerland of Colorado. They say the mountain scenes look like the Alps.

I love my Jeep almost as much as I love my Mini.

I lived in Durango for years and there are few places that offer better MINI and or Jeep roads with views that make stopping a pleasure. If you have never been I encourage you to plan a road trip after Labor Day to avoid most of the RV's.

That's Wheeler Lake, between Fairplay and Breckenridge.

AHHHH THE MEMORIES!

I have a 93 YJ that I have modded over the years and aside from Moab (which has some of THE best off-roading in the country) the Ouray, Silverton, Telluride trails are incredible!

Your pics are great! Back in 2004 we got "caught" up on Poughkeepsie Gulch when we were doing "The Wall" downhill. We managed to get down with all but one vehicle as the first snow of the year hit. We ended up having to climb back up with wet rocks and had to "strap" out our buddies modded F150.

Unfortunately for the dogs, we were doorless/topless so they were bundled in blankets! Ended up blowing a rear U joint as we made it to Ouray after a LONG zero vis trip to the bottom! Thank God for wrenching skills! I just removed the rear drive shaft and put her in 4wd so that the fronts would still drive. DAMN the luck forgetting U joints in my spares kit!

Thanks! Poughkeepsie Gulch was another trail off limits to rental Jeeps, now I'm really curious. I'm wondering if Moab Rim trail is off limits to rentals (I've riden/walked a mountain bike on that).

I wouldn't be surprised. That is a helluva trail! My favorite is Cliff Hangar...the drop is simply incredible with awesome views! Pritchett is one that I have never attempted and probably never will....just a place to bust your junk....LOL....

rental...awesome. We had a rental that joined out group through Pritchet Canyon last time I was out there...talk about dragging something through a trail...

I worst break I had was on Gold Bar Rim at The Wall.

Long day, ran through PSMesa, Golden Spike, etc. Broke my draglink right in half. We welded a few socket extensions to it, "Boy Scout Split Style" and it got me back to camp. Took the wedding ring off while holding one of the extensions for welding...then dropped it in the sand, never found it. ahhh good times, till I got home
