True Driving – NO BS
Yes that was me & my wife. I think it was in 1983 at the Sunriser 400 Pro Rally. That is in a city park in Chillicothe Ohio. It was on the first stage of the 2 day rally.
Yes it was a 79 Plymouth Fire Arrow. In the rest of the world it was a Mitsubishi Celeste. A big 2.6 liter 4 cylinder lump & 4 wheel disc brakes. That was hot stuff back then.
Oh man how times have changed. Man I loved that car!!!
We had many great times together.

Yes that was the same 2.6 lump that powered the turbo Starion & Conquest. The Fire Arrow engine was actually the truck engine that was used in the Dodge D50, Plymouth Arrow pickups. It had a higher compression ratio than the turbo 2.6's. It was a very reliable engine.
Didn't Gordon trade seats with an F1 driver for a day just to get the feel of a real race car? I can only imaginw what that must have been like for him. "Duh, why am I going so slow at 8,000 RPM? Why do I not have a shifter? Which way is the one that's not left? These brakes must be locking up. Its stopping way too fast. I can say I raced a red Mustang. This nice red car has a big horsey on the side."
Jeff Gordon did very well to sit in an F1 car for the first time & drive a track that he only new a couple of corners on. His times weren't bad either. He knows Indy's oval, but not the road course. What I remember Jeff saying is how his head was falling over because of the g loading in the F1 car. He said he'd have to train to be able to drive in F1. Jeff has a lot of experience in fast cars. Sliding sideways on dirt & wining in Midgets & Sprints is no easy task.
Montoya used to drive for Gannasi in Indy cars. Gannasi knew he wasn't happy at Williams & snapped him up. Chip's a smart one.
IMO the difference between a good driver & a great one is the great ones can drive anything.

I've been there. Years ago I rode the mountain bike up to Glen Cove to watch the first year the Puegoets raced.
They slow down near the top because of lack of air, not guts!!!!!!!!!!!
I have a friend who is contemplating racing next year, I volunteered to go along.
I'll be back to check out the other videos.
