Calling all fast Bay Area MINIs!
If you will notice Onasled is no longer a coordinator on the site. Because I spent several hours reading through the multitude of his postings around the net. His thoughts on Siddhartha and this particular incident it struck me as stalking. This isn't what I expect from coordinators on the site so he has been removed from his coordinator role in the Road Racing Discussion forum.
Ive got to say, NAM dealt with this pretty well....
Also, all I could think about yesterday when I was on track was..."I wish I had a full cage"
I think Im going to start renting full race cars, even for HPDE's....

Crashes happen...
even to the best of them. Also, while Jerry is very competitive, I've met many who are farther out on the Gaussian....
Hope he's doing well, and that only metal was bent.

I'm a track junky on hiatus. I got my start at a Skip Barber school, back when they ran the E36 325i. The hook was set. In the mid to late nineties, I worked the progression from autocross, to club racing, with a few professional racing schools thrown in. I even went to see touring car races at Silverstone and Zandvoort to see how it's *really* done.
After a long break from the track, I was looking for an event to take my new Mini (yay!) and came across this thread. I don't know the original poster from Adam, but the original post just had the earmarks of the kind of event I didn't want to participate in.
When I'm at an HPDE, I drive hard. When I'm in a race, or racing practice, or racing school (key word: RACE), I drive at an entirely different level, and have an entirely different level of car prep.
That being said, let me pile on onasled now. Chuckle? Really? That's your final answer?
Siddhartha, I'm glad nothing was hurt but a piece of machinery (that can be replaced). I've made mistakes on track, I've seen friends make mistakes on track, and I've seen strangers mistakes on track -- sometimes bad ones. The key thing is whether people use the mistake as a learning opportunity.
Turns 8 & 9 at Willowsprings were what converted me. I won't take a street car past about 80% unless it's in a slow corner that I totally own.

There's some history going-on here...
I'm sure Greg (onasled) would, in retrospect, probably agree that he could have expressed himself a bit more diplomatically here. But, I would venture to guess that he stands by the content of his message though.
Given past communications from Jerry in another thread where he offended me and others (mostly racers) with his aggressive and hateful words / tone, I was left feeling dislike for the man; and I find that bothersome because I'm not that type of person. Not saying it's right, but sometimes people respond back with the same harshness. This is coming into play here, but why in a NorCal thread? What the heck is Greg, from CT, doing here in this regional forum? Well, he was mentioned by Jerry, unprovoked, a few pages back, in a not so flattery fashion. Unless I missed something, this was onasled's introduction to this discussion:

Man, if you have nothing good to say about someone, then don't say anything. This is especially so when not incited and when there exists the aforementioned ugly dialog from a year or so ago. It pains Greg that his car is not done yet. He is a perfectionist though, and it will get done when it gets done. Jerry's mentioning of it here was uncalled for and was tantamount to throwing fuel on what was a smoldering fire. Just a shame.
With regard to Jerry's driving, I can't comment from first-hand knowledge there. From my understanding of his "cavalier" (adj) driving style, this was not an accident in the truest sense of the word. I don't race, but I've heard from those who hit the track about his ways and the actions taken against him in the past. Likewise, I find his verbal expressions to be highly pompous and reckless. The theme is consistent, leading to further validation of his persona, unfortunately.
I'm not here to pile-on, really. Greg's response is understood by me and others though. Sure it could have been more tactful; but we were certainly not afforded the same civil expression before. And some don’t forget such rudeness.
I wish for no one to roll their MINI or any vehicle for that matter. If I witnessed such an event unfold, I'd do my best to aid the person - including Jerry. That all said, let me make something abundantly clear... If someone held a gun to my head, forcing me to pick someone on this planet to do a roll, it would be this guy!
The best lessons learned it life are usually through the harshest of experiences. Look at the positives, recognize and admit to short-comings, make the appropriate changes and then improve... as a competent and respected driver and human being. If physically injured, I truly wish you a speedy recovery. I mean that.
I've spoken my piece on this subject.

Why are you people still talking about this? Don't you have anything better to do than to talk **** after what happened? Give it a rest. Jeez.
There was an accident. We all know about it. Move on. Mooooooove onnnnnnnn.....

This thread is well over a year old. I've been reading it on and off for months.
EDIT: Nevermind. I'm not going to waste my breath on people like this. Go ahead and resume talking your trash. It just makes you look pathetic.

Anything on another forum?
It's almost as if he's dropped of the face of the earth.
Oh well. It would have been nice to hear his side of the story.
Jim
There was just WAY too much schadenfreude going on for me to participate in this thread any longer. Hopefully the hysteria has died down as people have found other more interesting targets.
After the wreck

Since these photos were taken, the car has been resurrected and will be ready for the first NASA TT event Feb 9-10 at Sears Point.
We will also be at AMVIV for those who would like to get a closer look at the changes.
As for all the posturing, bravado and trash talking - that's in the past. I'll just let my performance on track speak for me in the future.
The only MINI participating in NorCal NASA's Time Trials finished its first season on the podium with a third place trophy. Next season promises to be better.
As always, I invite anyone interested in finding out just what their Mini is capable of to join me for some track days. I have pared my instructing down to NorCal NASA and a few guest spots (like the upcoming Aston Martin Owners Club trackday at Thunderhill). Anyone who wishes to may request me as a coach for NorCal NASA HPDE 1.
See you at the track.
Cheers,
Sid

Are those Gram light or the SSR wheels? Just wanted to know the wheel/tire size you used in these pictures/track.

See you in Vegas!!
