Big MINI Day

Without a doubt!

Went to both of them last year, was a great deal of fun, met a lot of nice people.

Hope to see you there...

I'm definitely going. Just watched the video and I am already walking around the house making engine noises. Now I just have to install the clutch and flywheel that have been sitting in the box for a month now.

jcampos, Is that you car in the vid?

I'll be there.

It'll be my third. Two other people I know will be going as well. First couple of laps will be like driving to work as people learn the track.

Matt

ps, it will be my baby's first track event! (real baby, the Mini's done 5 already).

Can't make it. I broke a rear endlink and could't get a new set in time.

What end links are you talking about?
I have some control arms, sway bar drop links and maybe some other parts if you need them. I'll pm you my phone number.

I'm leaving in the morning to the track - plenty of time to fix it.

Who made it?

I won a LoJack in the raffle.

A very nice group of Mini owners.

The down side: At $300, it is an expensive track day for Thunderhill. The organizer should be less greedy next year. 80 cars, $24,000 gross - he made some nice cash on this one, I'm guessing he netted 8-10k or so, not a bad take.

I'd be less forgiving on the cost if we got more track time. From his web site:

How much track time can I expect?

You can expect between six and eight on-track sessions. Each session is approximately 15-20 minutes in duration.
I ran the A group and we got 5, 14 minute sessons, and the A group was finished for the day at 3:30! He ran 4 groups. That is a RIP for a $300 track day.

While the attendees were great, I will not return next year because I felt it was over priced. I expected more for my money.

Makes me glad I did not go. I want to get some track time with my MINI, but not get robbed to do it, too bad he could not manage to do what he promised on his website.
Cheers

Four groups

I went as well and had a good time, but I was not happy with the change. Last year there were three groups. I was very surprised to see four groups this year. The price was the same. This amounted to a big price increase. I also ran Group A and was done early.

I did think they were well organized and there were lots of nice people there. Having the instructors was helpful. I guess I didn't like the non Minis being on the track though. A big booming Mustang spun out in front of me going in to Turn 1, after passing me on the front straight, and gave me a moment. I think the increased wind pushed him. I could feel it on the Mini and backed off some. Anyway I didn't go to a Mini event to deal with Mustangs.

Anybody can rent the track. A friend of mine did it a few years ago and about 50 of us had it for the whole day. At that time it was $2500 base price including the first group and then a supplement for each additional entry, but I can't remember what that was, but our price was way below $200 per vehicle.
