I could definitely use my windows tinted, but don't know a good shop in the area.

Try these guys.. I used them on recommendation of a friend and I'm super pleased with my windows. www.925tint.com Window Tinting Workz in San Ramon. Also, when I had an initial problem with the sunroof film pulling (the window was open too soon) they fixed it right up and added the back (sunroof) window (which hadn't been done) for free while I waited. Very nice guys and fast, competent work.

eenieMini's input is interesting. I'll look into that and am tentatively interested in a group buy on service to have film applied by specialty vendor. There are many films and thought will be given to that.

Hey I'm in brentwood too, let me know if you need anything. My neighbor was just telling me about a place out here that does a great job. Depending on how a group buy works out, I will probably end up using the place that does it for the dealer I work at. Thier stuff looks great and most of their work is done on high end cars, ferrari, porsche, etc... That is way out in San Rafael though.

I'm in Dublin so the San Ramon place looks interesting. If we get enough people we can set it up through the club in more than one spot. It just depends on how many cars we need to get a decent brake on the price.

Of course Brentwood would be my #1 choice, but only if the place does good work with quality materials. Pretty much anything from Brentwood, out to Concord, across to Pleasanton, and back to Livermore would be in an area I would be willing to go...but of course, the closer, the better.

Prices

This is 925tints qoute $140 for three windows, $199 for five windows. They also do clear bras for $850 but will lower that if a few people want them. We will have to set up a saturday for everyone to be there at the same time. Last qoute I got for myself was $175 for three windows in Manteca. This qoute was for 6 to 10 cars if we get more signed up it may drop some more.

I have tint already, but just a suggestion if I may - see if you can poll people what %s they want so they don't run out of it, that would be annoying for you if that happened (trust me, I had that happen with an install and they even knew what I wanted in advance; was aggravating to have to go back for it to be completed).

Also, check what kind of tint they will use and if it comes with a lifetime warranty. I've used the 3M Lumar platinum metallic tint on a bunch of cars and have always been happy with it fwiw, gray with good optics that has lasted well.

Good luck with the event - you'll love having tint cut the glare and some heat, I can't stand having a car without it anymore

Sign up sheet

I'll put a sign up sheet on Norcals website next week after they confirm a date at the end of the month. Put down what you want to get done in the "note section" and I'll post the contact info so you can confirm with 925tint.

sounds good. Not that it's necessarily the first thing on everyone's minds, but I've been studying the vehicle code for legal tints all the way around the car. I find it perplexing. SEEMS to be none in front, 88% visible at sides (front, maybe not rear?) and not sure about back.

Anyone gone through this and have a good sense of it?

Its illegal to tint the front and front side windows. So get the 5 window at your own risk. I'll check on sunroof tinting when I talk to them tomarrow.

I had my windows done (5) with the front two being the lightest. I was given the choice of 1-5 on shade (5 being "limo" tint shade). My front is at #2 but I should have gone for #3. I did not tint the sunroof to allow light in to offset my "illegal" side tint. So far I've been ok, but I live in an area where cops focus on criminals(alot of them available) and havn't much time for a "fix it ticket". I love the shade-if only MINIs had real visors to block te sun.

I made a deal with them per referral and got all windows done(including drivers/passengers) for $200 the Sunroof was extra (but I got it thrown in... so the quotes Larry got for group are a good discount!)

I do know they do have lifetime warranty and use the 3m.. you have a choice of "colors...blue/gray/rose, etc). Also in reference to legal tinting... they will tell you also that the fronts are illegal... so its up to you. I did light tint on driver/passenger medium on sunroof and one shade darker on sides and rear... If you get pulled over for speeding/etc just roll down both fronts right away so the officer isn't squinting to see you and he won't feel like "adding". My friend has darker tint (with medical excuse) on all his cars and has never gotten pulled over just for the windows... Its a basic safety thingie for hte officers they want to be able to see who's/what's in the car when they approach.. so I drop the windows. Course I haven't been pulled over in the MINI ..... YET!
