First of all, it is truly an exhilirating and exhausting
experience. I've said it before and I'll say it again, everyone who
likes driving should do this at least once in their lifetime. This
was my second track day, not on the same track as my first. This
was a much faster track. We had 13 MINI's in the novice group. But
I'd say that there were close to 20 MINI's total, some participated
in other run groups.
I had an excellent instructor, John Berger. He pushed me, but
pushed me gently. At the same time he was easygoing, he was also
aggresive and enjoying the heck out of it!
In the main straight, I was reaching speeds of 110mph, in 4th gear!
Then you're approaching your turn, braking hard, but smooth, to go
squealing into your next series of turns. It's true, you're doing
things by the end of the day that you didn't believe you'd
accomplish in the beginning. You and your car go to limits you
never realized you could.
I passed a Camaro, Corvette Z06, Lotus Espirit (I think we all
passed him, many times over),etc. Words can't explain what an
incredible day it was. Classroom time, track time, hanging out with
MINI friends, old and new. But the track, that's the real rush!
You all must try it some time!
