I seem to see quite a few here. Just curious. I don't own one myself, but am giving it a lot of thought. I live on the Cape, in Mashpee and was just curious how many locals there might be here.

There's a few of us. Me, Bisch, splinkey......
There's more on the Cape of course but they don't post.
I'm in South Dennis. CR/B S w/ the GOMINI plates.
I've been trying to organize a Cape group but haven't had much success.
Interesting website link you have there. Did you think that up all by yourself?

I'm very sad to say that I did not think that up. Creative though, no?

I guess when I made my profile, I wasn't in a very good mood.

Or wave for that matter. Had my MINI up there in June, saw the same LY twice on 28 in Mashpee, they blew me off both times.

I was going to mention that their is a LY/B S that refuses to acknowledge the existance of other MINIs. Very disheartening. I've had 3 or 4 encounters w/ that MINI over the past year and I'm on a mission to get a reaction. There's a VR Cooper in Harwich that's wicked stuck up too. Their loss.

Guys, if you don't mind my asking, which dealership do you use? I am taking a drive up to Peabody to take a look today. I'm not crazy about Herb Chambers and also I look at as, if I want to test drive the car, I don't really want to test drive it downtown Boston. Anyone have opinions of Peabody? Recommendations? People I should talk to/look for?

Thanks all.

mc,
you had better call MINI Peabody first (978 536 0088) because I think I heard that their service bays are not open today ...
I live close to them, and they are WONDERFUL.
CCM lives close to you (?) but he thinks they are wonderful too

At least that rain has stopped, so the drive will be nice - and there was a good spread of different MINIs waiting for pick-up last week, if you like that sort of thing!

iancull, do you think the showroom is open today? I'm going to call anyhow, but that's the reason I'm going up there.

Peabody all the way.
HC are horrible in every way imaginable.
Call ahead. If you can test drive w/ Hrach you won't regret it.
Have fun and report back.

I regret buying mine at Herb Chambers. I will NEVER go to them for service.

It is so funny that you mention that LY MINI! I just passed it the other day at a very slow speed. I waved  . They simply looked at me out the corner of their eyes and did not even acknowledge me!! :???: Oh well!

Well, I'm back from Peabody. That was fun What an awful drive to get there though (Columbus Day and Red Sox traffic). I hate the North Shore. Anyhow, very cool little dealership and nice people. I dealt with a gentleman named Steve. He was the first one to approach us. He was quite knowledgable and very friendly. I tried to toss in a few technical questions and he answered everything to a "T".

The test drive was nice but there was no place to really "drive" the car. He pulled it out of the lot onto Rt 1 and really got on it in 1st and 2nd, but when he pulled over to let me drive, it was all busy backroads that did really cater to the kind of driving I was looking forward to.

Anyway, all in all the car is fantastic. I was surprised at the incredibly short clutch take-up coming from my BMW, but the handling (from what I could tell) was spot on. Great clutch engagement and a nice and reassuring "snick-snick" to the gear lever.

What I didn't like was the height of the brake pedal compared to the gas. I have a habit of heel-and-toeing even in normal driving situations, and when I wanted to roll my ankle to get the ball of my foot on the brake, I found it to be too high and I kept missing it.

My wife loved it. It has a lot of pep when you get on it, the build quality impressed us as well. The switchgear is very cool, as is just about everything else in the car. When it came time to piece something together, I couldn't believe how quickly the sticker price added up with just a few options. And I also don't like that everything is "dealer-installed." That just adds up too fast. More of the options should be installed on the assembly line in my opinion. They had BMP intake/software/exhaust/pulley on the "option" list but none of it is covered by the warranty. I think that's plain stupid. If they offer it as an option it should come with some kind of guarantee.

Anyhow, we had a nice time and really enjoyed the car. Hopefully the decision will be made soon. Thanks to everyone for their comments and input. You guys are very helpful. Maybe I'll see some of you on the road. I'll be in the Steel Grey 330Ci.....for now.

mc,
The "options" that are dealer installed are not MINI options - if you wish you can buy intakes, exhausts from many places and even install them yourself if you want.

The sticker price does not need to add up - it depends what you put on it. The sunroof for example is pricey, but it is huge. The xenons are competitively priced.

Glad you enjoyed the drive - were you test driving an MCS? Did they tell you about the long wait times?

I understand that you can buy countless aftermarket products just about anywhere, but I found it odd that they were on the dealer's options list without warranty, etc.

Anyway, yes it was the MCS I drove. I'm not interested in the base Cooper. Oh, btw, are xenons included in any of the packages or are they an additional option? And my complaint about dealer installed options wasn't directed at things like shift *****, etc. I find it very very bizarre that things like the aux. gauges, upgraded wheels, and especially the JCW kit can't be done on the assembly line.

As far as the wait, it's really not that bad. They have quite a few cars on the lot not claimed, but to build one would take about 3 months. Nothing wrong with that. My BMW took 5 months and my S4 before that took about 8. In fact, I was quite surprised how short the wait would be. I wish I could say I was looking into buying this as a second car, but in fact we are looking at it to replace the BMW. It's come time to buy a house, and as much as automobiles truely are my passion, my priorities have to get in order sometime and for once, something supercedes the car. A lot of decision making going on in the mc household right now. We'll see. But no matter how it turns out, you guys/gals are driving one hell of car.
