Moving to NY with my wife... we are going to be in the brooklyn area.
we are not sure about what to do with our Minis... I am a track junkie so we are thinking about selling hers and keeping mine.. Do you guys have track events frequently? what tracks do you go to? is it a good idea to have a car there?? I 'll be working n Manhattan and planning to commute to work and keep the car for the weekends... Waht do you guys think?

you must mean the Brooklyn.
Well, I have no idea about your parking situation there, but it might make sence to keep both, or not.
As for tracks, the closest is Pocono in PA, (~2hrs)
Next up is Lime Rock Park, in CT. (~2.5hrs)
and then Watkins Glen (my fav. 'east-coast' track of all.) (~4.5hrs)
followed by Summit Point, WV (also ~4.5hrs)
After that, there are some long drives to get to Mosport & Tremblant in Canada, Mid-Ohio (8+hrs), VIR, Road America and many, many other tracks between here and there.
Use this website (first obtained from the PCA world)
http://www.thetrackschedule.com/indexmain.php
it lists every local track event... so you can join the local BMWCCA or Trackmasters, TrackTime, or AUDI, or some PCA events and go play.
Cheers!

They are also building a track in South Jersey only about an hour or so from Brooklyn and NHIS about 4 hours north of the city.
Parking in the city which includes Brooklyn can be rough, hopefully you are in a section of brooklyn where there are garages available.

Welcome to the area. Where are you coming from? Boca?

There are plenty of events to satisfy whatever your desiers are. All the clubs, SCCA as well as the marque clubs have all sorts of events in reasonable trailer distance from your house. And lots of autocross events in minimal driving distance if you go that route.
Depends where in Brooklyn you are going? My guess is the biggest problem will be alternate side parking but most everyone gets used to that. And there are parking spaces to rent depending on your situation.
So the bottom line is welcome to the area. You’ll find lots of stuff to do here, more then anywhere in the world, and plenty of track time to suit your fancy.

I relocated to NYC from Florida in May. I lived in midtown Manhattan until Sept., and I now live in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.
The parking woes of NYC are greatly overestimated. Even in midtown, as a complete newbie, I quickly figured out where to find street parking. Of course, that sometimes required riding the subway one or two stops into the upper westside to get my car, but it didn't bother me.
In south Brooklyn, the parking is a cinch. In fact, I'm thinking about fetching my Honda from FL so I can have 2 cars up here-- one exclusively for business use. 8 times out of 10, I get a parking spot within view of my living room window.
Central brooklyn will not be as easy to park in, but it can be done. You need to specify where you will be living.
A bonus of having a MINI is that you will find "reserved" parking spots along the street just for you, as people leave too little space between their cars for anyone else but you to fit in there. If you are a bit gutsy, you can often park near the fire plugs when people leave too much room for fear of getting a ticket.
