Lost iPod Interface Connection

I have seem to lost my connection with my BMW iPod interface. I would normally turn off the stereo and connect my iPod and it would connect. But last week, it stopped connecting to the stereo. Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions?

Does the iPod switch to the BMW screen? If not, either there is a loose cable or the device is malfunctioning.

BMW screen? Mine always says MINI. The only time I ever had trouble with it not working in my MINI, it wouldn't work anywhere else either. The hard drive crashed.

You stated you had a BMW kit, I assumed you were installing this into a BMW. If the HDD crashed, this is an iPod problem and not the kit.

It was the BMW/Mini Interface connection. I bought it aftermarket and had a stereo shop install. The ipod itself works fine. and i get the Mini Screen when it hooks up. I just cant seem to find why it wont connect? Maybe software? maybe the interface card itself?

Probably the best thing to do would be to take the MINI back you your installer for an inspection.

A local motorer had the same issue. We just took everything apart and reseated all the connections, and it hasn't skipped a beat since.
It's a bit of a pain, but not too tough.

I am having the same exact problem. Today my OEM MINI iPod adaptor stopped working. When I plug my 4GB (first gen Nano) into the glovebox connector, nothing happens. I no longer get the "MINI" screen prompt and pressing the "MODE" button in my H/K head unit only cycles between Radio and CD. It no longer recognizes the iPod. I tried resetting the iPod many times but it appears my OEM adaptor finally went kaput. Any ideas? This adaptor was originally installed by the dealer and never had a problem with it until today. This really shucks!

The battery in the iPod does continue to charge when I put the dock cable, but the headunit no longer "sees" my Nano. Arrrrghhh!!!!

Update: This morning I decided to attack the problem and go for an early start. Dreading the prospect of a dealer visit, it downed on me that there had to be a way to "reset" the iPod adaptor. Did a little bit of search over @ MINI2 and MikeyTheMINI recommends pulling out both radio fuses to "reset" the iPod adaptor and pressumably the radio itself. Seeing that I had nothing to lose by trying fiddling with the fuses, went down to my MINI and located both fuses inside the kickpanel trim on the driver's side footwell. Removed the fuse bank cover lid, and lo and behold the 2 fuses that control the stereo system are housed in there. On the first fuse bank (The one closest to you), count 10 fuses from the top and locate a 5 rating red fuse. Take it out and inspect it. In my case, the fuse was fine. Then, on the second fuse bank, count 9 fuses down from the top and locate a 15 rating blue fuse. Yank it out with the provided plastic red fuse removal tool (so neat!) and then again inspect it to make sure is still usable. Then again in my case, the fuse looked good. (If the fuse is blown, there are spares inside the fuse box bank) Re-inserted both fuses in their corresponding slots and turned on the stereo. Then I plugged in my iPod Nano and presto! It worked again! Yay!!!!!!!! my H/K detected right away and all playlists are working fine. Unplugged it and plugged it back on a few times just to make sure it would work fine under repeated on and off cycles. Couldn't be happier! This 5 minute job saved me a trip to my dealer and possibly losing use of my car for t least 2 days, not to mention having them taking apart my dashboard just to tell me that "We could not find anything wrong with your adaptor". If you run into this problem, even before you begin checking your physical connections, make sure that your radio fuses are in good working order and reset both the radio and iPod adaptor by removing and replacing the fuses before going any further into the troubleshooting process. Hope this helps!
