Navigation & Audio VSS wire pulse rate or Speed Sense
VSS wire pulse rate or Speed Sense
I did try searching, but the topic was not to be found with my words of Choise.
I know the locationa nd the color of the VSS wire or Speed Sense wire depend on who you talk to.
Speed Sense yellow/green ABS module, pin 8
But I do not know it pulse rate and it is is Sqaure or Sine.
I am 99% sure it is a Sqaure wave.
if any one has this data or a link to a thread with this info that work be great.
I am trying to a navigation system to work and it needs it to work.
it is a system that once it is all installed and running will never fail do to GPS signal issues.
Unlike the portable unit from Garmin and other where if you loose GPS you are dead in the water.
any help would be great.. thanks.

I am told it is square wave, 50% duty cycle, pulse width changes with speed

Thanks you Madhatter..
the first link gave told me the wire that I found is confirmed good...
"If the car is fitted with the run flat sensor system then a speed input pulse is easy to find.
It can be found on most models along the drivers sill just in front of the seat edge (right hand side) behind the plastic cover.
Its a yellow and green wire located in a bmw type spade connector junction which is clipped to the inner sill and at first glance looks like a earth connection.I dont think you will find the pulse at the speedo head as its sent by canbus at that point.
Thank for your help...
I have PM another member who might have gotten the reading I need.
But I would not have found him with out the link you posted..
Got to love forums with helpful folks..

okay did that spade connector have more than 1 wire? My car only has 1 wire connected to the spade connector. What is the pulse for our cars? Is their a way to split the pulse as read in the links above? If so so how?
I just installed a Carion Nav System, which required the VSS Speed Sense wire. I found the wire under the plastic sil coming down the right hand side of the car. It is Yellow/Green, about 6-8 inches infront of the right seat, and for a car without existing Nav, would be the only wire in the black spade connector. If you look in the same location coming down the left hand side of the car, should be a similar spade connector with a brown, ground, wire. I assume that if you have a factory installed Nav, the wire harness uses these locations for its Ground and VSS hookup. Once I got these hooked up, my Nav was spot on.
Not sure what you mean about breaking out or splitting the pulse. I simply jammed a metal lead connector into the black spade. You could just as easily cut the wire, splice, or tap into it. The Nav system simply wants to know if you are moving or not, and will calibrate accordingly.

Well I hooked up my Pioneer AVIC-Z3 to that wire (green and yellow)and its telling me that it cannot detect the speed pulse. Now it is working okay but I know the pioneer would tell me what the speed pulse is ex 13,000. Its just telling me the wire is not installed.
