Bluetooth Question

When I picked up my MINI, I was told by the dealership that the buttons with the phone icon on the steering wheel were for some bluetooth tecnology not yet available in the states. Does anyone know if that is true?

yikes! no need for that. My Bimmer came with the BlueTooth functional. Which is good, for as much as my Wife "chats" on the cell phone.

for $1,200, I'll look at some other "mod's" for itty bitty....

Not 100% true. When I went in to get the Bluetooth module in my MC it was much cheaper because I didn't get the whole intergrated unit with the charger in the arm rest etc etc.

Also the phone buttons probably won't be enabled on the R50/53's as they told me a year ago that they were looking into it and nothing has happened.

Actually the buttons on the steering wheel work with the more expensive bluetooth. They will not work with the cheaper one. The r/t button pulls up your phone book on the radio and the phone icon button dials it when you reached the contact you want to call.

The buttons on the steering wheel will never work with the lesser priced blue tooth... Once you spend the money to get the armrest installed and the module installed, out dealer charges about $2500, if you already have an armrest then it is about $2000. The lesser expensive one is $685 installed.

You can also get the Parrot Evo from www.newministuff.com that has a unit that will enable the use of the buttons. I have one in my car and it works great.

Here is the product that you might be looking for:http://www.newministuff.com/new/shop...uctshow&id=256. I don't have one yet, but it's on my list. It looks to me that the kit costs about $280.

Sometimes the name doesn't tell it all... EAS is a Californian company.

I have the whole in the armrest charger and blue tooth and have had marginal luck with it. I feel the problem is more likely my phone, and not the bluetooth. It is nice not having cables to deal with!

Yes - we may have a kit ready to go - we test this week as soon as we have our volunteer arrive.

Sounds like I may want to hold off buying a bluetooth interface for a few days then.
