Navigation & Audio small nav bug?
small nav bug?
Hi
Using nav os 27.1 on a mk4. Noticed a small bug maybe other people have seen?
1 in 20 times, starting up the car, the icon in the upper right indicating that the satellites are being seen does not come up. The car is clearly not running off just dead reckoning, as it tracks driving perfectly.
after leaving the car off long enough for the nav to power down, when it comes back up, the icon is usually back.
I just thought that was weird. anyone else notice this? Does v.28 fix the problem?

Have you ever in these instances ever tried using the Nav for route guidance? Assuming the image is just 'buggy'. If it really bothers you v28 would just flash over the OS and possibly clear up the issue.
Do you park in a garage or where large trees are around? The signal could be blocked and you are not getting all the sats necessary for accurate navigation. The GPS sat (little green icon) only lights when there are at least three of the eight sats locked. Your car will still track as there are gyros and wheel sensors that assist the navigation system. I lose the green icon when going through a small forrest area by my house.
I haven't done anything different with the car. it is parked in the open, and even after moving for ahwile, the icon doesn't come up. it would seem the icon just doesn't feel like showing up. There is definetly satellite data coming in, as the dead reckoning (wheel sensor, etc) isn't nearly as good as the gps data, and in just a few blocks, you're usually totally off track when just on dead reckoning. This is not the case, as the car stays totally on track.
next time it happens, i'll try routing to a point and see what happens. or go into the hidden menu and see what the sat data is...
not really a problem, just odd....

Very odd. You could check the sensors in the hidden menu to make sure they are all working. It could be that the car just needs time to reaquire a full lock.
To get to the hidden menu, you can go to setup and then hold the menu button for 5 seconds or so. There is a menu in there that will let you see what sats are locked and it all the sensors are working.

Recently, i used the GPS for a long trip. as the odds would have it, when i started the car, it was one of the times where it didn't show the icon (for those of you telling me to wait for it to appear, it doesn't, not even after an hour).
so I'm driving around to my destination, icon-less, and all is well until i'm about 50 miles into my journey, at which point, it is totally unable to figure out where i am. It starts bouncing around everywhere. I pull over, stop the car, eat my breakfast, and start the car, icon is back, nav is working perfectly.
happened again yesterday in the driveway, so i went to the super-secret menu and checked the satellite telemetry. It said it had some, so i got out of the menu, and poof! the icon is now there.
so yes, this is not a critical problem. but it can cause you some grief. In short: If you're going to use guided traveling, make sure your icon is there!

Yeah, no doubt it sounds like your nav needs some help. If you can take photos of the screen when it is malfunctioning it can help to print those and bring them with you when you go in for service (helped me explain things and to use as evidence when i had some issues with an old CD system).
