MINI Logo gone from Nav

I have an 03 MSC with factory Nav - CD-Based. (Not DVD)

About a month ago the MINI logo stopped appearing. I just have a blank screen until the on-board computer comes up - seems to take about a minute or 2.

Other than that it's working OK. Car is Waaaay out of warranty (90K miles) so I don't want to go back to the dealer and spend a fortune on a new nav just to get the logo back.

I never had the disclaimer/nag screen that others have mentioned here.

Anything I can do - I kinda miss it...

The best thing you can do is reflash the Nav OS with a version correct for your CD based Nav. I'm searching for the v23 for it. Since with V23 the updates stopped being made for the CD version.

In the meantime, go into the settings screen of your Nav and write down the # in the top right corner. That is the version of your Nav OS.

What he said...

it's just a computer (and expensive one at that) and it's got a little gremlin. Maybe a file got corrupted or something.

Ok, found them. The newest version that is known to work with the MkIII(3) CD based version is 3-1/63 aka V23.
Although the newest version is v28 from the TSBs from BMW the newest reliable version from BMW is V23 for the CD.

Download it from here.
Use the instruction here to update it.

Do this at your own risk

Should I update my older NAV???

I just ran out to the car and looked at what version I have...(its 41 degrees right now in Socal)

Mine is version 3-1/50, would updating to the newer 3-1/63 do anything cool? Is is different at all? I would just go ahead and do it but it is a pretty time consuming process. Just want to know if it is worth the time. My car is an 03' and I believe we have the older CD based system.

Thanks!!!!

The update will usually help it run smoother and faster. Other then that not much unless you have newer map CDs. The update takes about 6 minutes tops once the CD is burned.

I am having the EXACT problem. Same year car too - 2003. I already have the 3-1/63 flash of my CD-based NAV system. It started happening about three weeks ago and I just didn't want to have to make an appointment with the dealer, who will probably tell me they are all booked until 6 weeks from today and that if I wanted to get in any sooner I'd have to pay for my own rental car because it would take probably 2-4 days to diagnose the issues and...blah, blah, blah...you get the picture. Sucks!

Please let me know if you are successful in finding a solution. Thanks.

mdsbrain,

I thought that the latest version for the MK3 was 22.1? Is this not correct? I have it hosted on www.simplymini.info as well if anyone needs it.

According to a FAQ and help on www.x5world.com the MK3 can take a higher version.

Uh.... Not the way I read that thread. Version 3-1/63 is the highest version for the MK3 and it became available with V22 disk.

It is no biggie, I think that I just misunderstood you.

V22.1 has the 3-1/63 version on it.

Since I started this thread, I should have followed up with you guys to tell you how the story ended.

First - the problem is solved. My NAV is back to working the way it's supposed to.

I did NOT upgrade the firmware.

What happened is that my battery died. We had a cold spell, a week of 20-something degree highs - and I wasn't driving the car much. I've got a slow current leak somewhere, and if I don't drive the car at least once every 2 days, the battery gets too low to start the car. I didn't drive the car for a spell of about 5 days during that cold week. It was drained down so low I could not unlock the doors with the remote.

I recharged the battery and since then the NAV has been fine - the MINI logo appears when I open the door - everything is cool.

I guess it needed a complete reset...

Come to think of it mine did this the other day. We had a really cold night one night and the next morning the car was dead. I noticed when I got in that the logo was not there. Heck, I don't think the NAV was even spinning up but some small things worked...

Got a jump and all is well in the MINI world again.

How long do the batteries last? I have an 03. Could it be time to get a new one? My wife drives the car pretty much every other day and the weekends.

Let's try to stay on topic - if you want to discuss replacement car batteries, I know there are other threads running for that...

I was only asking about the battery to deduce whether or not my car's NAV problem was also a dead battery.

Arrest me.
