#1
Hey Guys,
I hope all is well with you! I'll be heanding home in the next couple weeks and wanted to know if you think a radar detector is useful? I've really never used one yet I've been pulled over 3 times for speeding but given two fines. So what's ur take on radar detectors and what do you guys recommend? i.e. K40, Valentine 1, BEL, Escort... Also, any install pictures would be great!!! Thank you

They help, but, you really don't NEED one. If you know the roads, then you probably know where the cops hang out. Unless you speed, which some of us do, then get one. If you get one, be sure to pay attention to it. There are a lot of false alarms, and sometimes you can ignore the real thing...like I did. I can be a good invesment though...

I have one and it is the reason I still have my license. I don't speed like a freak just normally 5 -15 mph over nothin crazy. You get alot of false alerts with the cheap dectors, if you want a good one be prepared to pay over $200 for one. I just bought my 2nd Bell dector and i love it, i now have the BEL 985 it is one of the best on the market the other two great ones are th pasport 8000 and the valentine 1. i say get one you can never be too safe.

Don't waste your time with radar detectors, with all the lasers that the cops are using these days, as well as the air patrol, and the fact that many states are banning them, its just pointless. Do what us smart people do, spend $150 and get a good CB radio. Just ask the truckers where the cops are (channel 19), you'll thank me later. I've gone fvrom Ohio to California and back at over 90 mph average... usually running 100-105, no worries.

I have the k-40 stealth system with laser jammer. So far 18,000 miles no tickets and i REALLY deserve a bunch  The lights in the pic are , lower left front detector behind bumper , right light rear detector behind rear bumper and the green middle is the laser jammer behind the grill. there is a differant beep for each signal so you can tell without really looking what is going on. Best part is NO ONE can tell its there, RandyPage Title maxmini site

radar detectors are useful if you know how to distinguish the beeps from errors and actual cop radar...but its always better to keep your eyes open and be realistic about
when to speed and when not to. its also a bad idea to speed at night as you
really need to monitor the area while you do drive. if they did a snapshot radar
or a laser, you wont have enough time to react.
cops can also pace you from the rear without their radar going and still pull you
over for speed. that being said, drive carefully and responsibly.

The only ticket I've gotten in the last 5 years was on a day when I did not have my V1 in the car with me. I make regular trips to Mammoth Mtn from Palmdale for skiing in the winter and the CHP loves to give out love notes on the 395 (esp. near Bishop). My V1 has saved my butt many a time.
An earlier poster (kenchan) noted it is not a good idea to speed at night as you need to monitor the situation. This is true when you are the only car on the road or are the lead car in a pack, but not when the road has several cars spaced out.
My boss with his V1 set at its most sensative setting got a ticket coming home from Mammoth by being the only car for miles in both directions... stealth speeding is easy if you ise some common sense...
Just my $0.02...

Obviously not a V1 user.
You'd have as hard of a time pulling my V1 from my fingers as you would the car itself. It's paid for itself 4 times over since I bought it several years ago. It detects laser radar for me every morning on my drive to work. Sometimes they double up laser with one cop and Ka with another. I get em both well in advance.
A CB would be fun though..."Big Ben, this here's the Rubber Duck and I'm about to put the hammer down..."
BWahahaha!

I really like where the shop put the lights and speakers down under the toggle switch. The warning sounds are very distinctive and you just have to glance down to see if it is the front or rear radar receiver or if it is the jammer working on a laser. When you first turn the car on the system does a self check that is rite out of star wars LOL .
