New antenna for OEM SIRIUS

Just a note for anyone trying to add OEM Sirius in the next few weeks. I just got off the phone with my parts guy, and he says that BMW has discontinued the current Sirius antenna (just the antenna, not the receiver). However, he said that they are working with a new vendor to make the new antenna, and that it may not be avaiable for several more weeks.

SO. If you are planning on putting OEM Sirius in your MINI, double-check that they actually HAVE an antenna in-hand...otherwise you will be waiting for awhile.

I just got the last one that Classic had *whew*

Or you could just put in XM....which is what you should have done in the first place

HAH!
  1. No OEM option in MINIs
  2. Inferior programming
More customers does NOT automatically mean better.

Unless you're a huge baseball fan, SIRIUS is a far better choice on sports. Music-wise, I think SIRIUS has it too.

But I'm not just basing it on my opinion. My coworker has factory XM in his GM vehicle. His wife has SIRIUS at home. I asked him why he chose XM... he said only because it was a factory option - and that he MUCH prefers SIRIUS after having extended listening time on both.

Mind you, he's a huge NFL fan, so that probably played a part too.

MLWagner79, you can also use an aftermarket antenna with the OEM receiver and get the same functionality. That's what I did, mostly because I have factory Nav, and the OEM SIRIUS antenna is incompatible with it.

I played with both before we got it - actually, my husband and I both did. He was buying a new Yukon (bleh) and they had an OEM option for XM. We spent probably a half hour flipping through the various channels on the showroom model and looking through the brochures and opted to pass. We like the Sirius programming a lot better. He likes the NFL coverage and Howard Stern; I love the wide number of NCAA football games every Saturday and the progressive talk stations.

Well...

blitzsafe has a solution that is as close to OEM as you can get....it is run from the OEM head unit and plugs into the OEM harness.

Regarding programming...I watch NFL, not listen...so that does not matter.

XM has hockey (Go Wild!) and local traffic reports.

XM also has all of the NCAA games...so no difference there.

Not to mention O&A......XM 202...Stern is washed up and on vacation most of the time HOO HOO.

I guess my point is that we are not limited to a Sirus OEM option...XM can be had as well...

There's no harm in informing him of the XM option, but you chose to harp on MLWagner79's decision... which was wholly inappropriate, considering he/she posted with information that could be useful for someone else in the same situation. It was supposed to be a constructive thread - they weren't asking to be made fun of! That's why I refuted your statement so strongly. (You'll note that after I finished refuting you, I tried to offer useful info too.)

Everyone has their reasons why they want satellite radio... and obviously for different people, one will be better than the other. Your given reasons for choosing XM are valid, so are mine, for SIRIUS. Straight info is good, but there's no point in having a brand war here. That would have to go in Off-Topic.

P.S. SIRIUS has the official NHL coverage and local traffic reports too, you know.

I love how a post about an antenna shortage turns into a battle between Sirius and XM.

hahahahah
