Placed right behind the roof antenna. Search and you'll find pics of other folks that have placed it there to and some info on wire routing.

postrin - In the base - I want to do that too. Any tips? I know it will fit in the base, but is it easy to run the wires down with the bolt? I was worried too much cripping would kill the wire. Also no problems with reception?

you can see mine in that huge image (only roof shot i got).

I place it on the rear hatch, mostly hidden by the rear spoiler. No problem with signal at all.

However, id like it completely hidden AND functional. Was wonderring if anyone has mounted it on the center of their dash right by the glass?

I mounted my Sirius antenna on the front of the dash, right in front of the red dot in the center of the dash. I get great reception there, and I hid the wires under the dash, with no cutting!

I placed mine behind the antenna and ran the wiring in a crazy route through the car. Works really nice.

I had mine on the dash for a while, but I had too many signal drop outs going under bridges and trees. I moved it to the roof and it has been fine since.
Try the dash and see if it works for you.

I have mine just behind the stock antenna on the roof. I get very good reception with hardly ever a dropped signal. If I'm not careful when I wash the car I move the sat antenna. I'm afraid I'll scratch the roof. I'm thinking of using some 3m trim tape to hold it in place.

On the 05-06 base without nav
1. Towards the rear of the car after the second sunroof if you have one, there is a hump in the headliner. This where the factory proximity/motion sensor would go if you had an alarm in the car. This hump an the headliner just pops out. Take it out
2. Inside the hole in the headliner will be a large bolt. This holds the antenna down. There is a wire going through this, if you follow the wire it leads to a connection. Disconnect it from the connection and unscrew the bolt. Your antenna will be loose now.
3. Remove the antenna, and remove the mast from the antenna base. Once it is out, turn it over, on the button will be 4 or 5 very small (t5 or t6) torx screws. Remove these screws. The antenna should come apart relatively easily. Inside the antenna, you will have the antenna amplifier on one side, on the other will be a flat spot.
4. I took apart the antenna that came with the xm direct unit, it was fairly easy to take apart, but if you have a myfi or roady, then antenna they com with would probably be small enough.
5. With the xm direct antenna apart, I used foam type double stick tape and cut out a cushion for the antenna to sit on inside the base. While this is probably unnecessary, I figured it couldn’t hurt. Once that was all down, I trimmed a small amount out of the cover of the base with my trusty dremel and put it all back together.
6. Through the bolt that holds the antenna to the car is a groove. This is where I ran the cable for the new antenna. These is now where the cable is twisted or crimped. I have had mine in for about 8 months, I've never had a dropout I didn't expect, meaning, If I am in the middle of nowhere under a barn, I don't expect it to work, But It's never dropped out driving around town, undre overpasses and such.
Let me know if you have any questions, If you're having real problems, I can take mine apart pretty easily and snap some pics, but it'll be the weekend before that can happen
Paul

After readingd all the posts on installing a Sirius sat radio I bought one at Radio Shack, the Sportster Replay. Using all the great tips things went smoothly. I took some photos but can't remember how to get them from my gallery to a post. Thanks to all the pioneers. Joe Tiemann (Reinheim)

A question for Sirius folks....the instructions for my unit say to unplug the unit from the power source (in my case the cigarette lighter socket). Is this really necessary? When I turn the ignition off the power source is shut down and the radio shuts down as well. Any thoughts would be welcome. Joe Tiemann

SAGWORKS,

Here is a photo of an XM antenna in an FM base. This is from my convertible, but I believe they are the same. One thing I had to do that postrin didn't mention, was to remove the red plastic cover from the end of the XM antenna so that the end would fit through the hole in the FM antenna base. There should be a white keeper that you pry out of the red plug, then the red plug will come free of the antenna lead. Just reverse the process after you have run your antenna lead to where you want it.

Can anyone confirm that this can be done with the Sirius antenna?
