iCruze installed and not working...HELP!

I had a "professional" installer put in my iCruze this morning. I just got it home and hooked up my ipod and it does not recognize the iCruze on my HU. It says No CD when I hit mode, because I have no CD in there, but shouldn't it then go to the Changer? The Ipod sees the iCruze and the iCruze sees the iPod. When I turned off the car, the LCD is still on and displaying the word Icruze. I also got back my Extension cable in my box. The installer said he didn't need it.
I am going back over there, but what do I need to tell him? He called Monster Support during the install because their instruction manual had different cable colors than what was on the adapter and he said they were really no help.

You can do the iCruze install behind the headunit without the extension cable but its a tight fit. You really have to pay attention to the wire colors though because there are similarities like white wire and white with a red stripe etc. Sounds like the installer either didn't make good connections or missed one. The blue LED on the iCruze module and the LCD screen should both be on when the key is on. If they are then power is good and the installer didn't get the bus wire (communications) connected properly.

The instructions said 'white wire', but the interface had a 'White-red' and a "Tan-Red" wire. He called Monster and they said the white-red is the same as white. You think everyone was wrong here?

I never made it back to the installer. I am a little concerned that the LCD display being on means the battery is being drawn on after the key is out of the ignition. I would also like it to actually work, so I will have to take it back to them tomorrow.

If the LCD is powered up when the key is removed, they did not wire it correctly.

Plus, when you connect your iPod, the LCD should tell you that it's connected to "your iPod name here".

The only issue I've had with my iCruze is sometimes when I start the car, the iPod isn't recognized. turn off the car, and immediately turn it back on, and we're off. Happens about 5% of the time for me. But, it's no big deal.

Hi flickster,

The syndrome you explained is similar to the one I am having sometimes although I am using the BMW iPod integration kit. After I connect the iPod, I can see MINI on its display, but I get NO CD on head unit. NO CD refers to CD changer in this case, since the iPod unit is connected to the changer port I believe. It's the result of the faulty connection. I disconnect then reconnect and everything works just fine. I assume there might be a faulty cable or connection.

By the way, I found a very good deal for HK Drive+Play at Circuit City. They had it on their web for $120, and when I went to pick it up, they told me there was additional $20 discount, so I bought it for $100 and after doing researches for several days and testing other products, I think that's the best iPod solution in the market at this point.

Good luck!

Culled from assorted posts in the iCruze complete kit - $99 from factory thread...

1. For the cable that came with the iCruze module (goes from the iCruze module and the interface module) - the blue/white wire is attached at both connectors but the instructions say to cut of one end (don't remember which) and I used the now cut off connector to wire the blue white to accessory, and the yellow to 12v constant just like the directions said, and mine turns off, at least the LCD is off when the car is off.

2. The interface cable is different, too. There's two main wire bundles:

2a. One has a connector that plugs into the changer block on the back of the radio (CB891-B). Simply unplug the factory connector that runs to the boot, plug in the connector and wallah, that part's done! Also included in this bundle is a black ground wire with a stake-on. I ground it to the radio chassis, using the convenient screw mount on the back of the radio...

2b. There's another wire bundle with 3 bare wires... The brown goes to the brown in the main wiring loom (pin 12) which is ground. The red/brown goes to red/brown in the main wiring loom (pin 15) which is the battery connection. The red/white goes to the white/red/yellow in the main wiring loom (pin 9) which is the CAN+/I-Bus... I finally figured that out by going to the boot and looking at WTF'ing connectors had in them back there...
I ended up mounting my iCruze module and the interface module right behind the driver's lower knee bolster (the plastic piece that's replaced if you install the euro parcel shelf). I had to screw them down, since it's too curvy, but they are in there SOLID. Best part is that you can just pull that down and service everything, then snap it back up.

That should do it. Here's the steps I did to do the install...

For the installation, theres a bit of splicing (12v constant, 12v accessory, ground, and the data bus. All four wires are available on the back of the radio, so you can either use "Scotch-Locks" aka T-locks or you can do what I did...

1) Remove the down tubes, driver's side knee bolster, & (optionally the glove compartment)
2) Remove the connector from the back of the stereo & remove the head unit.
3) slide the blue "tab-holder" out of the wiring connector.
4) For each of the four wires you need remove them from the connector by using a small jewelers screwdriver to push down the tabe holding them in place.
5) Once removed, strip the factory stereo wires about 1 inch from the connector and using a soldering iron solder the iCruze wires to the head-unit wire.
6) Slide head shrink tubing (or use tape, UGH!) onto the wire and using a lighter (or heat gun) shrink the tubing to protect the wires.
7) do steps 4-6 until done.
8) mount the boxes with strong double stick tape.
9) Put the head unit back in and reconnect the connectors.
10) before putting everything back together, test iPod/iCruize/Radio.
11) reassemble car.
12) do a little dance and go for a iCruise in your iMini!

Hmmm, I could be clearer...

iCruze wire Color | Function
Yellow | 12v constant
Blue/White | 12v accessory
Brown | Ground
Red/Brown | 12v constant
Red/White | CAN+ / I-Bus

When I installed my iCruze, I used the wires on the back of the Head Unit itself. which would be...

Mini Head Unit wire Color | Function
Brown (Thick cable) | Ground
Red/Brown (pin 15) | 12v Constant (Battery)
Purple/Blue (pin 16) | 12v Accessory
White/Red/Yellow (pin 9) | CAN+/I-Bus

I took my car back to the installer yesterday and we verified the wiring. He is convinced the black interface box is the problem. The circuit board inside there is not secured to the black box itself, and he thinks there is bad wiring in there. I bought this secondhand (Never installed) so I have no hope of a warranty. But before I buy another Interface box is there anything else? I emailed Monster, but have not heard back yet.

I heard from Monster Cable and it sounds like 2 things are going on.
1) The installer tapped into the wrong wire for the 12v Accessory
2) The iCruze is an older version and has a known issue with interfacing with BMW. Even though I purchased this secondhand they will honor the warrenty and swap out the iCruze.
