My OEM Nav. FIXED

I've done some searching for the topic but no luck.
Mine is a 2004 MCS with MkIV dvd Nav. I'd upgraded to v27 a month ago and was working fine until last week.
Out of the blue, I'd got an error message "incorrect CD/DVD in nav. computer. Please insert appropriate CD/DVD" when I was driving around. After getting home, I popped the dvd out, had it cleaned and had found no scratch on it at all.
I waited for another 20minutes and restarted the car. The screen came up with msg "Please wait for a moment ....." but that moment was like forever. The map will only come up on its own will. Sometimes the nav. will start will the screen to ask you to choose the Country. The response time is like 2 to 3 minutes for every command if I'm lucky. Most of the time it will just hang up.
However, in the split screen with on-board computer, it will still show the latitude and longtitude when I'm driving around. Just no map (the map will only show up once every blue moon now) is showing in my Nav. and I cannot ask it to map any direction (neither from address book nor inputting an address).
I've booked him in for service on Monday. My qusetion is - should I risk to downgrade it before getting in for service? I'm suspecting dirty lens in the DVD casued the problem, so I don't want to make the mess worse than it is now.
Anyone has the same problem with their OEM Nav.?
Appreciate any advise .....
Cheers
Stephen

I wouldn't do the downgrade as doing that will put the unit into "no location" mode (no "Accept" screen, distances given in yards instead of feet, etc.) and the dealer will know for sure that it has been messed around with. However, if you are using a copied DVD, then I would put the original MINI-branded map data DVD back into the nav unit before you take it in for service. If you're running a non-MINI branded DVD, that's the first thing that the dealer will try and blame.

Good luck and I hope it's an easy fix.

Thank for your reply. Good to know there is a "no location" mode. I'll just leave it as what it is.

For the map DVD, it's the original copy (2003-2 map disc) and actually I'd been to a friendly dealer & asked for a new disc (2005-2) to try it out but still got the same problem. That's why I've suspected the problem is from the DVD unit not the disc.

Fingers crossed. Hope it will not turn out to be an expensive fixture in my MINI

Anymore advise out there please .........
Cheers
Stephen

Did you try cleaning out the computer with a DVD cleaner? Also check all the connections to make sure nothing is loose.

I've been looking around for the DVD cleaner kit but most of them need you to select a track for cleaning and it seems not possible for track selection in our DVD module. Unfortunately, I don't have the tool at home to take the seat out to check the connection.
By the way, I remember, some time ago, people mentioned about the hard reset of the Nav. by disconnecting the battery and holding the + & - cable together for 10 seconds of something like that?? Does anybody has any recollection of this reset. Tried searching the topic but no luck yet.
Cheers

No offense, but I don't think that's going to happen. Just having the v27 installed on your MINI's nav system doesn't mean anything (as long as it's not a hacked version with different voices, splash screen, etc.), and I seriously doubt that MINI will say anything about it (or even notice it really). The reason that I say this is that I just saw a new 06 MINI that actually came with v27 installed on it at delivery. Thus, MINI is obviously using the V27 update themselves now.

Personally, I wouldn't worry about it. I'd simply take the car in for service and tell them about the problem you are having with the nav system. Don't tell them ANYTHING specific and if they ask any questions, just play dumb. You'll get it fixed for sure. Don't spend one more minute worrying about it.

Just my $0.02.

Thanks for your comforts TheOfficeMaven. My v27 is NOT a British voice hacked version. I just hope it's a simple loose connection or dirty lens. My appointment is at 8am tomorrow and I'll keep everyone informed.

The dealer cannot fix the problem but ......

Just come back from the dealer and it's good news, kind of?!
The dealer cannot fix the problem and they are going to order me a new DVD Nav. module. It's going to be a few weeks wait but the problem is in good hands. I'm kinda lucky to get this problem now becasue it's only 8000km before the end of the warranty.
In the dealer, we found out that there are 4 different versions of DVD module (with different part numbers) since the introduction of MkIV DVD Nav. in late 2003. We don't know the difference though but they are going to order me the latest version. Will keep everyone posted when I get the new one installed.
Thanks again for all your helps & comforts.
Cheers

My OEM Nav. FIXED

Hi all,
After waiting for more than a month, my Navigation is finally replaced today. Everything is working fine again.
One thing I'd like to mention to you all is that I guess I have a more current software version that v27. I've noticed that the version in my Nav. now is SW 4-1/71 (I remember that the v27 was SW 4-1/70 before) and I have the Route Magnet in the menu now. I'm still trying to figure out how it works but all I know is that you cannot enter an address as the magnet.
Anyway, I'm all happy with the Nav. working again.......
