2005 navteq vs. 2006 navteq

Got my new 2006 MCS on Feb. 10 2006. Came with the 2005-2 navteq dvd.
I see they have out the 2006-2 dvd now.

Can anyone tell me what I'll be getting for the $199.00 if i upgrade?
(and duh, don't tell me a new dvd)

Is it worth it?

Do I just pop in the new DVD to upgrade or is there more to it?

Yes...it's a straight replacement disk. But unless you live in a fast developing area that need updated changes in the last year...you really don't need it (unless you're a update nut like me)...it does sport a new perspective interface which is kind of neat but doesn't display useful information such as the name of the road you are approaching...

OfficeMaven can probably provide you with more info...give him a PM

There is one crucial new feature on 2006-2 disc conjunct with the firmware v.27. Which is the Zip code input.
It filters out your selection a lot better than by City name. With that new feature, numbers of turns on the input **** is reduced.

Check out this tread: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=63345

It talks about how to update your firmware. Also you can check your firmware version by going to the Setting, and the version number will show on your top right conrer. "SW 4-1/70" means v.27.... "SW 4-1/60" means v.26

Firmware is more like the OS on your computer, it render all the widget on the screen. By updating it on your navi. system then your system is capable for the new features. The zip code search is one of the new feature of the v.27. For more detail check the thread above.

Also you can do the update in the dealer or by your own.

I got my car in May05 and it came with the damn 03 DVD

With V27 and the new 2006DVD you get the zip code option when searching for Points of interest in a city. Not when plugging in an address.

Direct link to v27 How-to.

I also had the 2005DVD and I had to have the new 2006 DVD. Reason is I live in the DC Metro area and the roads change alot in a year. So it was very helpful for me.

Other cool features that are available with V27 running a 2006-2 nav disk that haven't been mentioned yet are:

1) The V27 update adds a really cool looking 3D (or "birds eye") perspective view to the MINI's nav system. This is available with any year map disc.

2) The V27 update automatically clears the "Accept" nag screen for you after about 8 seconds (so that you don't have to manually push the button each time you turn on your car). This is available with any year map disc.

3) The V27 update when used in conjunction with the new 2006-2 DVD allows you to narrow your Point Of Interest searching (resturants, gas stations, etc.) to the current state that you are in instead of having to search the entire country. This speeds up the search results and also stops you from having to scroll through a long list of POI's that aren't located within the state you are currently in. This really helps if you are located near a state boarder.

Also, one thing to note is that even if you live in an area where the roads haven't changed in a while, odds are the POI's have. Thus, the newer map disc will get you an updated list of POI's. As we all know small businesses like resturants, etc. tend to go in and out of business quite quickly sometimes.
