Navigation & Audio Factory Nav question
Factory Nav question
I am New to North American Motoring and MCS ownership. I recently purchased an 03 MCS with Nav. The car has 30k on it but is out of warranty due to time. The warranty expired a week prior to my purchase.
The problem I have is when the car is first started the Nav Computer will diplay "no disc in drive" when there actually is. It will eventually display the map and gps info. It will never read the disc to find new locations.
I have done some searches and read some of the Nav upgrade threads and have learned that mine has the cd instead of dvd drive.
Can my system be upgraded to the new dvd drive? New Software? how much?
Any input would be appreciated>

Is the disk that you are using the original or a copy? If it is a copy, it might be time to get a new disk. You can buy them from Navteq or from the BMW/MINI dealer.
I would see if I could find someone that would be willing to lend me a disk to see if that is the issue. I have heard of people upgrading the hardware to the DVD version and most stated that it is not that difficult, but it is pricey. Might be worth looking at a junk yard to see if you can find a min that is wrecked to see if you could get it there.
As for software, the latest is V26 (rolling out with 2006 models). Upgrading will give you better graphics but that is about it.
You might also try copuing your disk (original to a copy) and using the copy to see if it will read it. Hopefully, you only have a bad CD and not a bad unit.

I agree with seeing if another local MINI motorer will offer you a disc to try in your car.
As for the Navi software v26 that works only in the DVD based Navi system (MKIV). To upgrade to a DVD system just requires the computer to be replaced (the part thats under the passenger seat). A costly part but like daflake said if you can find a wrecked car or one cheap go for it

As I understand it, the MINI Nav units are the same as the ones in the BMW's and I read on the following BMW site, about 3/4's of the way down the page:
http://www.x5world.com/showthread.php?t=9458
that the Mk III units and Mk IV units were simple plug and play swaps.
I can't speak as to the accuracy of the info since I haven't been able to find anyone who's actually done it.
I've been wanting to try it but I haven't had any luck tracking down a Mk IV unit.
